In 2011, the Cincinnati Bengals had lady luck on their side.
With a rookie quarterback (Andy Dalton) passing to a rookie No. 1 wideout (AJ Green) in a West Coast offense called by first-year coordinator Jay Gruden - the upstart Bengals shocked the league, as their 6-2 record through eight games led the AFC North.
Then, in Week 10 of the regular season, the hated Pittsburgh Steelers...
At this point last season, you would have been hard pressed to find anyone that believed the Bengals would be a respectable football team, much less a playoff contender.

“Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said after the 24-19 win that tight end Jermane Gresham was fine. When Gresham walked off the field he said he was fine and thought he could play next week, but he doesn’t know...
The loss of Travelle Wharton with a knee injury last week was evident on some plays, as blitz overloads forced Andy Dalton to run right in order to avoid the hit.
Dalton’s connection for a 50-yard touchdown to A.J. Green caught Asante Samuel napping, as Dalton hit Green in stride after beating the veteran corner by a good two or three steps.
Brian Leonard of the Cincinnati Bengals facemasked this Atlanta Falcon’s player and than had the ball completely knocked out of his hands. This stuff drives coaches crazy.
