The Pittsburgh Steelers secondary has sustained more injuries as head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday during his press conference that cornerbacks Cortez Allen and Keenan Lewis both suffered hip flexor injuries in the 34-24 loss to the San Diego Chargers this past week. With Ike Taylor already ruled out for the upcoming game Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, Tomlin noted that the availability of Allen for Sunday is in question. Lewis, however, is expected to be able to play against the Cowboys, but both will be limited this week in practice regardless. The injuries to both Allen and Lewis Read more [...]

Tomlin Says He Didn’t Go For Two Points Because He Wanted To Keep Plays In His Pocket

The Pittsburgh Steelers chances of overcoming a 24 point deficit Sunday in their loss to the San Diego Chargers were slim, but head coach Mike Tomlin didn't help matters when he chose not to go for two point conversions after third and fourth quarter touchdowns, which if converted, would have made it a two possession game in both instances. Tomlin was asked about the decision...

Tomlin Says No Changes At Running Back Planned For Cowboys Game

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference that he is not planning to change up the running back pecking order this week against the Dallas Cowboys following the 34-24 loss this past Sunday to the San Diego Chargers. Judging by the answer that Tomlin gave, Jonathan Dwyer will most likely start again and be backed up by Isaac Redman with Rashard...

“Lack of Ike Effect” proves to be a learning experience for Steelers’ Allen and Brown

If there was any question that the presence of Ike Taylor makes the Steelers Cornerbacks a better unit, it should be answered after having watch the Steelers get taken apart by Philip Rivers and the hapless Chargers. Taylor certainly had his share of struggles early in the season, giving up big plays and being tagged for pass interference penalties. In the last 6 weeks though he’s...

Steelers Injury Report: Adams & Taylor Out; Cornerbacks Allen & Lewis Dealing With Hip Flexors

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference to talk about the loss last Sunday to the San Diego Chargers and the upcoming game this week against the Dallas Cowboys. Report: Mendenhall Didn’t Think He Had To Show Up On Sunday

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports on Wednesday that suspended running back Rashard Mendenhall told head coach Mike Tomlin that he did not show up at Heinz Field on Sunday for the game after being told he would not play because he thought that he didn't have to. Mendenhall was one of the 7 game inactives for a second week in a row and his failure to show up on...

Beating Dallas Means More Than Just a Step Toward the Playoffs

Whether you were alive in the ’70′s or not, you damn well better know about the rivalry that ensued between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys. So-called “America’s Team” full of glamour and filled with a prim and proper style up against the “Men of Steel” from the harsh, dirty environment of the rust belt. Twice they would meet in two of the greatest Super...

Steelers Versus Chargers Game Rewind – Second Half Notes – Week 14

Below are my second half notes from the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-24 loss Sunday to the San Diego Chargers. Here are my first half notes in case you missed them. The 2nd and 9 wide receiver screen the Chargers called on their opening possession of the second half was a great call with Keenan Lewis playing so far off. Both he and Ryan Clark get blocked out of the play and it leaves...

DeCastro Set To Make First Career Start Against Cowboys

On Tuesday Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed during his press conference that left guard Willie Colon had surgery on his left knee on Monday. The injury is expected to sideline Colon for the rest of the season. With Colon now sidelined rookie guard David DeCastro will get the opportunity in practice this week to show that he can play. Tomlin said that the plan...

Steelers Injury Report: Colon, Polamalu, Clark & Sanders All Dinged Up In Loss To Chargers

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media following the 34-24 loss Sunday at Heinz Field to the San Diego Chargers and during his press conference he gave a quick recap of the injuries suffered in the game. Left guard Willie Colon (knee) reaggravated his left knee injury that he suffered several weeks ago and was unable to return to the game. Although Colon did dress...

Steelers OL DeCastro back at work, preps for debut

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and coach Mike Tomlin could barely contain themselves on draft day when David DeCastro fell to Pittsburgh at No. 24. Eight months later, it appears they'll finally get a chance to see him line up at guard in a regular-season game. Left guard Willie Colon had surgery on his left knee on Monday and could be out for the season. Tomlin said...

Steelers playoff hopes alive but if they keep playing this poorly it won’t matter

The Steelers continue to receive gift after gift from the rest of the NFL. Even the loss today at Heinz Field, 34-24 to the lowly Chargers still leaves them in control of the 6th seed in the playoffs by virtue of the Ravens and Bengals both losing. I’ve said it many times this year, if the Steelers have 9 lives they are burning through at a rapid pace. As Mike Tomlin said in his...

Steelers Lose G Willie Colon For “Several Weeks”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reports that G Willie Colon underwent surgery on his knee and is expected to miss ”several weeks,” per Ed Bouchette. Tomlin added that David DeCastro will get a shot at playing right guard, while Ramon Foster will likely replace Colon on the left side. As a unit, the Steelers have been better this season, but they still struggle to effectively...

Steelers Might Not Be Able To Dress All Five Wide Receivers Against Cowboys

The Pittsburgh Steelers dressed five wide receivers last week against the San Diego Chargers for the first time this season as Jerricho Cotchery was able to return to action after missing the previous two games with busted  ribs, but that might not happen this week against the Dallas Cowboys thanks to injuries at other positions. Head coach Mike Tomlin was asked during his press...

Report: Willie Colon Expected To Miss Rest Of Regular Season With Knee Injury

Pittsburgh Steelers left guard Willie Colon left the game Sunday against the San Diego Chargers with a left knee injury and did not return. Head coach Mike Tomlin didn't elaborate about the injury during his post game press conference but Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports via Twitter that the Steelers do not expect Colon to play the rest of the season. Colon...

Steelers Defensive Coverage Stats Versus Chargers – Week 14

Below are the coverage stats for the Pittsburgh Steelers following their 34-24 loss Sunday to the San Diego Chargers. The completion percentage of 51% looks good on paper, as does the 4.88 yards per attempt, but when you factor in the Chargers were 12 for 22 (55%) on 3rd downs and Philip Rivers was 11-of-19 (57.9%) 118 yards with 2 touchdowns on 3rd down, you can clearly see why...
