It's been repeated millions of times, but preseason isn't the time to make too much out of results. So maybe the next few graphs on a Sunday off won't really matter and nobody will read too much into them. But I'm writing 'em, so at least you know an eyebrow was raised. The Colts' defense outplayed the offense in Saturday's controlled Blue and White scrimmage. Yeah, a defense without S Bob Sanders and CB Marlin Jackson. A defense with new coordinator Larry Coyer. Against Peyton Manning and the rest of his weapons. Hmmmm. Colts coach Jim Caldwell came up with a scoring system to reward the defense for three-and-outs, forcing punts, creating turnovers, getting sacks, etc. The defense won, 45-31. Manning was 10-of-18 for 72 yards with a 2-yard scoring pass to Reggie Wayne. But he was also picked off by rookie Jerraud Powers and sacked once by Melvin Bullitt.
