I don’t believe the newest Bear, linebacker Cato June, will make much of a contribution this season, even if Lance Briggs has to miss some time, which isn’t expected. June hasn’t played football since fracturing his arm in the preseason, so it’s fair to assume that the Bears will not rush him back on the field unless injuries at linebacker become an epidemic. It makes more sense that the Bears picked up June hoping to keep him around beyond this season. For now, Jamar Williams will replace Briggs if his sprained knee keeps him out Sunday against the Rams. But Williams’ progress has been disappointing, and he is no longer considered starter material. June, when healthy, has been a starter since his second season in the league.
