Yesterday, members of Junior Seau's family announced they had filed a lawsuit against the NFL and Riddell helmets. If you didn't see this coming, please withdraw your head from the sand.I'm not trying to say anything degrading about the Seau family. They even went so far as to say what the point of the lawsuit is, of which I can agree with it's finer points."We know this lawsuit will not bring back Junior. But it will send a message that the NFL needs to care for its former players, acknowledge its decades of deception on the issue of head injuries and player safety, and make the game safer for future generations."The NFL has some work to do - lots - in regards to head injuries. But that cannot, and won't, change the nature of the game. It's a violent game, and people are paid lots of money to do violent things. And more people pay lots of money to watch it, either live or on television. As for the lawsuit, it's frivolous, in my opinion. It's a wrongful death lawsuit, which amounts to saying the NFL and Riddell have some responsibility for Seau's death. But what is there to gain? Money? Someone saying "My bad?" I feel bad for Seau's kids. There dad is gone, and this won't bring him back. But money can't replace him, either.
