A Mecklenburg County jury sided with Panthers linebacker Jon Beason on Thursday Mike Cranston of the Associated Press reports. Beason, 26, was sued by 30-year old Gregory Frye, who alleges that Beason assaulted him at a Charlotte strip club in November of 2009 after Frye alleged to another Panthers player that Beason had used cocaine at previous party.
Beason denied striking Frye, though admitted during testimony during the trial that he wanted to punch Frye, and attempted to punch Frye, but that he did not make contact with the man before being restrained by his friends. The 2007 first-round pick out of the University of Miami filed a counter-suit claiming Frye has slandered him. In that matter, the jury again sided with Beason, awarding him $1, which is what Beason’s lawyers had asked for.
