Since his retirement, the Old Gunslinger, Brett Favre, has more or less remained fairly hunkered down in his current hometown, Hattiesburg, Miss. The town of Hattiesburg and the surrounding communities have been left devastated by a series of tornadoes that ripped through the area on Sunday, leaving towns leveled and many citizens with either damaged or destroyed homes.
In a telephone interview with the Fond du Lac Reporter on Tuesday, Brett Favre was his typical, down-home, aw-shucks self as he reported that he and his family are fine but he is nevertheless blown away by the damage in the area.
Some of the quotes from Favre’s interview, which was brief as he was headed out to assist in cleanup efforts, via the Fond du Lac Reporter:
“Nobody was killed!” Favre exclaimed during a phone interview. “Look, everybody here is scratching their heads — ‘Can you believe it?’ Amazin’. ”
“Where the tornado started, as the crow flies, was probably a half-mile to one mile straight east of my property,” Favre said. “Then it just (veered) and crossed the main highway in Hattiesburg before heading to Southern Miss. You never hear of a college getting hit with a true tornado. The good Lord’s looking out (because) the students were gone for Mardi Gras break.
“It’s kind of one of those things down here. I don’t want to say we overlook it but there are tornado warnings and bad weather all the time. To say that it was black and windy — that could be any day. At times, you just take it for granted.”
And here is Brett Favre wielding a chainsaw:
To be honest, even when he’s assisting in cleaning up a community devastated by severe storms, it still looks like Brett Favre is just having fun out there.
