Most NFL teams would crave a three-day weekend, but for the New York Giants, it was entirely too long. So as Monday rolled around, they were anxious and happy to return to work after what amounted to many bitter and sleepless nights following a 24-17 opening week loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

“I think every guy in this locker room is disgusted with how we played,” Justin Tuck said.

Tuck has never been shy about his disdain for the Cowboys, and even made note of it on NFL Network's America's Game. So losing to Tony Romo & Co., let alone the way they did, has not sat well with the Giants' defensive captain. In fact, it hasn't sat well with anyone on the team, nor their legions of fans.

"With everything that was riding on that game, the first week of the season, against a division foe, a team we have a lot of history against, you want to come out and play your best game and say ‘You beat us playing our best.’ " Tuck said. "But we didn’t do that. That irks me. That really bothers me. Considering the fact we had a lot of time to prepare for that team, we should have been more ready."

Following the loss on Wednesday night, head coach Tom Coughlin acknowledged that the team wasn't as prepared as they should have been, saying two of three practices leading up to the game were subpar. Making matters worse was the success of other NFC East teams this past Sunday … all of whom walked away with a victory.

"You can't lose a game," Coughlin said. "Everyone else is 1-0, and we're 0-1."

As uncharacteristic as poor preparation is during his tenure, it's nothing he plans to reflect on … the team has to be ready to play on Sunday when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thus far, they're off to a better start than they were a week ago, with Coughlin saying Monday's practice was "better."
