New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck will be wearing a new foul-proof facemask when the season starts. It’s designed to send a message to opponents: “Go ahead, just try to stick your fingers inside. I’ll take them with me.” The new design has five horizontal bars and 12 diagonal bars. He wore it during practice. Tuck introduced an upgraded facemask last October when he suspected opponents tried to aggravate his neck injury by sticking their fingers in his old facemask and pulling. It looked like a grill.

Justin Tuck debuts new facemask

The facemask the Giants defensive lineman wore last season (left) didn't prevent opponents from grabbing it, so Tuck has a new one that's even more over-the-top.

Justin Tuck has an insanely protective new facemask (Picture)

Before long, Justin Tuck will be looking through a cage to try to see the football field in front of him. After he returned from a neck injury last season to help the Giants win a Super Bowl, Tuck had quite a few extra bars on his facemask to protect his neck from being jammed or poked at. The photo on the left that you see above shows Tuck’s facemask during the postseason last...

New York Giants re-sign Rocky Bernard, waive Jake Ballard after failed physical

The New York Giants announced on Monday that they have re-signed defensive tackle Rocky Bernard. In order to make room for Bernard, the team waived tight end Jake Ballard, who suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in Super Bowl XLVI. He was unable to pass the team's pre-training camp physical, which was conducted today. Considering Ballard is at least a year away from returning...

New York Giants' Eli Manning Wants to Focus on Reducing Turnovers, Creating Consistency

In 2010, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw a career high 25 interceptions to go along with two lost fumbles. Whether or not those turnovers were solely his fault has been up for fierce debate, but in 2011, he dropped his interception total to 16 and didn't lose a single fumble. It was a remarkable turnaround that ultimately led Big Blue to their fourth Super Bowl...

Terrell Thomas excited as Giants close camp

Tom Coughlin didn't waste a lot of time talking to the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants after their minicamp ended. His comments Thursday lasted roughly just over three minutes, and the advice was the same he has given for decades. Enjoy the next six weeks, work out, lift some weights and be ready for the start of training camp July 27 at the University at Albany. Of course...

Coughlin preaching 'improvement' at Giants' minicamp

NFL teams are forced to cram as much as possible into the truncated offseason program under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the Giants kicked off their three-day mandatory minicamp Tuesday by starting to install their schemes, going through workouts and then working on corrections. "It will be an interesting three days," coach Tom Coughlin said. "We...

Giants OT David Diehl Facing A Fine, But No Suspension

Giants tackle David Diehl is facing a big fine, but is unlikely to be suspended by the NFL after he was busted for driving drunk in Queens on Sunday night. Those are the rules and restrictions under the NFL’s current “Substance Abuse Policy,” according to an NFL spokesman. As a first-time offender of a DUI “absent aggravating circumstances” Diehl is mostly likely to be fined...

Giants QB Eli Manning Has No Plans For Formal Workouts With WRs

QB Eli Manning doesn't have any offseason plans to meet with his receivers, but that could change. “Maybe here and there if they're in town, but we don't have anything scheduled right now,” he said. “Some of the guys that stay local, (I) could definitely see them a few times and throw some routes just to keep the arm going and them catching some balls.” Source:...

Bill Belichick Refutes Breaking 'Unwritten Rules' in Signing Jake Ballard Away From Giants

Bill Belichick was able to exact little bit of revenge on the New York Giants for their Super Bowl victory, on Tuesday. But the move left a sour taste in the mouth of Giants head coach Tom Coughlin on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots claimed recently jettisoned Giants tight end Jake Balled off waivers on Tuesday, after the Giants let go of the injured tight end. Ballard is coming...

Patriots claim TE Ballard off waivers from Giants

The New England Patriots have claimed tight end Jake Ballard off waivers from the New York Giants. Also, the Patriots placed rookie tight end Brad Herman on injured reserve Tuesday. According to Jake Ballard’s agent Blake Baratz, his client was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on Tuesday. Ballard was waived on Monday by the New York Giants, who were likely going to place him on injured reserve once he cleared waivers, but he didn’t. Ballard likely won’t play a down in 2012 for the Patriots, since he’s still recovering from offseason microfracture su...

NFL, NFLPA Considering Increased Player Discipline For DUIs

The NFL and NFL Players Association are expected to continue to look at increased discipline for driving-under-the-influence, in the wake of an incident involving New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl on Sunday, Albert Breer of NFL.com reports. DUIs fall under the substance abuse policy, and the league and union are still operating under the terms of the 2010 substance abuse...

Tom Coughlin Expresses Disappointment in Losing Jake Ballard to the Patriots

New York Giants head coach wasn’t very happy when the New England Patriots grabbed tight end Jake Ballard off of waivers Tuesday. Ballard was waived to make room for defensive end Rocky Bernard, but the injured tight end was then surprisingly signed by the Pats. “Discouraged is a minor description,” Coughlin told ESPN New York. “Very disappointing.
