The 49ers led by Colin Kaepernick and a defense that got the best of Brees went on the road and came away with another W. For the second straight week Colin Kaepernick came out and impressed, yes there were a couple hiccups (INT, awareness) but going on the road in that hostile environment, he did well. It did not look like a QB only making his second start. On the defensive side of the ball they absolutely owned the Saints and Drew Brees, outside of two long pass completions they shut down that high powered offense. Brees was sacked 5 times by the defense and also Brees threw two pick 6′s. One to Ahmad Brooks and the other to Donte Whitner. Yes if you take away that pick 12, the outcome is different, but you can’t and the end result is the same. The biggest question you’ll hear this week is who remains the starter in San Francisco. Harbaugh said after the game that he’ll make that decision later on this week, but if he stays true to his ‘hot hand’ comment. Kaepernick should take th...

Niners sting Saints with convincing 31-21 win

With Colin Kaepernick again effectively leading the offense and a defense that got downright offensive on its own, the 49ers were simply too much for a hot New Orleans team on Sunday afternoon, taking control after halftime on the way to a convincing 31-21 victory over the Saints at the Superdome.

Vernon Davis wants Alex Smith to start

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has yet to commit to either Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith as the team's starting quarterback.  Tight end Vernon Davis thinks Alex Smith should be the one under center. "It's difficult, but I think Alex is still the man," Davis said after Kaepernick led the 49ers to a 31-21 victory over the New Orleans Saints. "In my...

Smith active for 49ers, but Kaepernick starts

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, sidelined since Nov. 11 with a concussion, was cleared to play today against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, but Colin Kaepernick is the starter. It will be the second start for Kaepernick, the second-year player out of Nevada, who helped demolish the Chicago Bears Monday night, 32-7. Smith is the only other active quarterback...

49ers use Kaepernick, defense to top Saints 31-21

Dashon Goldson turned Marques Colston upside down just as the receiver leaped for a pass over the middle. As Colston landed on his head and lay motionless for several seconds, safety Donte Whitner snagged the deflected pass on New Orleans 42 and weaved his way past Drew Brees and Co., all the way to the end zone. That was but one of the big plays turned in by a San Francisco defense...

Vernon Davis: 'Alex is still our guy'

Even though Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a win over the Saints, tight end Vernon Davis nevertheless voiced his support for benched starter Alex Smith.

NOT VERY SAINTLY

Brodrick Bunkley kicks Alex Boone in head

In what surely will result in a hefty fine from the league, Saints DT Brodrick Bunkley did his best Ndamukong Suh impersonation by kicking 49ers OL Alex Boone in the head. He was promptly ejected from game. Via Doug Farrar of Yahoo Sports:With 1:13 left in San Francisco's eventual 31-21 win, the 49ers were set up to kick a 33-yard field goal, but the attempt was blocked by...

49ers’ Vernon Davis: ‘Alex Is Still the Man’

Clearly, the 49ers have found something in changing quarterback at 6-2-1 on the season. With Colin Kaepernick at the helm, they are now 2-0 and now among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, not everyone agrees. Vernon Davis told reporters this after Sunday’s gritty win over the Saints on the road. “It’s difficult, [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my...

Still eying playoffs, Saints get ready for Falcons

Drew Brees happily entertains playoff possibilities for the New Orleans Saints, figuring that the question of whether a 5-6 team deserves to be in the NFC wild card race is irrelevant. He has a point. Despite an 0-4 start and their latest loss on Sunday to San Francisco, New Orleans remains one game out with five games left. To Brees, that means the Saints are virtually in control...

Straight Outta Stockton - Week 12

This week's Straight Outta Stockton could easily be renamed Straight Outta Aikman as the lead NFL on Fox analyst had a rough time during yesterday's Saints-49ers game.  While a few of those are noted below, I have to pay tribute to the work Aikman is doing to the English language.  Multiple times during Sunday's telecast, Aikman said "I don't disagree"...
