Terrelle Pryor With running back Darren McFadden still listed as questionable by the Raiders and Oakland being uncertain as to whether or not he will play on Sunday, the Chiefs’ greatest worry on defense is quarterback Terrelle Pryor. His ability to hurt a defense with his arm and his feet make him the biggest threat to ending the Kansas City Chiefs’ winning streak. The Pryor Issue Pryor is not an unstoppable force like Michael Vick once was but he can be dangerous if left unchecked. In four starts, Pryor has thrown for 845 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 229 on 37 carries. He has also thrown two interceptions. There were several times last week when the middle of the field was gaping wide open for Kansas City defensively and Tennessee quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick made the Chiefs pay by running the ball. If Fitzpatrick can hurt Kansas City with his legs, Pryor certainly can. The Chiefs have to scheme differently for Pryor. Scheming to Beat Pryor A problem arises when a defense exclusively commits a spy to limit a quarterback’s running ability, however. That problem is the fact that the defense now has one less man in coverage who isn’t rushing the passer either. Essentially the defense is playing 10 on 11. Kansas City must be selective in when it uses a spy so it doesn’t leave itself out-manned in pass coverage or pass rush. There are times when the Chiefs will have to back off their usually aggressive pass rush and play a game that is designed to make Pryor uncomfortable but keep him in the pocket. The edge rushers for Kansas City must keep contain and not let Pryor wide of them on the field. If they can limit Pryor’s running and force him to make reads downfield, their chances of having another stellar defensive performance increase. Pryor isn’t a world-beater but he is the Raiders’ best chance in Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. If the Chiefs want to end the streak of home losses to Oakland dating back to 2006, they have to keep him from having a huge game. Read more here

The secret is out on our Chiefs. We loyal brethren have suffered through thick and thin, waiting for this moment: fielding a relevant team. Now all the talking heads are on the bandwagon too. Chiefs reap benefits from ‘second’ draft class

Despite picking at the top of the 2013 NFL Draft the Chiefs haven’t received much production from their rookie class. But they struck it big in what can be called their second draft. Those are the seven players the Chiefs claimed on waivers during the opening week of the season after NFL teams reduced their rosters to 53 players. The Chiefs based on their 2-14 record of a year...

Chiefs fans aim to break Seahawks' noise record

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Even the most muffled clap seemed to echo throughout Arrowhead Stadium last season as the Kansas City Chiefs stumbled their way through one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Now, a group of fans is trying to restore the roar. When the unbeaten Chiefs welcome old rival Oakland to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, the fans will be trying to break a Guinness...

Alex Smith 'pumped' to play Raiders

Alex Smith was never a Raider. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has played the team only twice in eight-plus seasons yet he’s as familiar with the Raiders as any team after spending so much time across the Bay. Smith spent eight tumultuous years with the San Francisco 49ers before being traded to Kansas City in the offseason adding dimensions to this AFC West matchup. Sunday’s...

Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs: 3 Bold Predictions

On paper this one is not going to be fun for the silver and black. On the field it just might surprise everyone involved. Especially the Jolly Walrus and his crew. This is the epitome of what we call a trap game. One team is on a roll, stomping the guts out of everyone they play. One is a tweener, neither good or bad defines them, but it is clear the effort is there. The team on the...

Raiders Week not what it once was, but thats not a bad thing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Ah, yes, in the 1990s, Raiders Week used to be special. Billboards all around town used to stir up the rivalry. Raider-Hater parties were nightly occurrences. And at Arrowhead, Chiefs players started getting amped up first thing Monday morning. Marty Schottenheimer made sure of it. As former Chiefs center Tim Grunhard once told me, "It was crazy. We'...

Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs: Week 6 NFL Pick

Oakland Raiders (2-3) at Kansas City Chiefs (5-0) Before the season, the Raiders were expected to be an all-time bad team. That hasn’t happened, as they are 2-3 right now and credit Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen for building a passable team despite over 50 million in dead money on their cap. However, I think they’re a little overrated right now. They’re not a good football...
