Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs look to move past the Indianapolis Colts. (kcchiefs.com) The Kansas City Chiefs head to Indianapolis on Saturday to face the Colts for the second time in three weeks. After a 23-7 loss in their first meeting, the Chiefs look to change the outcome and advance to the second round of the playoffs next weekend. Comparing the teams The Chiefs have not had much success against the Colts historically in the playoffs. With a 0-3 record all time in the playoffs against Indianapolis, the Chiefs look for more success this year as both teams are pretty equally matched. The Colts have the edge at quarterback as Andrew Luck is one of the best young quarterbacks to ever play the game, but it most other areas, the Chiefs seem to have the edge. In the running game Jamaal Charles gives the Chiefs the advantage in this area, and they look to focus on getting him numerous touches in both the passing in rushing attack just as they have all season. With the season ending injury to star wide receiver Reggie Wayne earlier in the season, the Colts lack a strong presence at receiver outside of second year man T.Y. Hilton. The Chiefs are fairly deep at wide receiver as Alex Smith has spread the ball around fairly well this year and this gives the Chiefs numerous weapons to attack the Colts defense. The Chiefs went the first nine games of the season at 9-0 and having 23 turnovers on defense, while going 2-5 in the last seven games while still forcing 13 takeaways. For this reason, I would give the Chiefs the edge on defense due to the fact that they were still able to force turnovers even when the games did not end up in a favorable outcome. What to expect Statistically, both teams match up really well in all categories. Take away a key interception and a key fumble the Chiefs had, the first game would have been a lot closer. With all the mistakes the Chiefs had in game one, they still only lost by 16 points. I would expect the game this Saturday to be a close game throughout. I do not think any team has a huge advantage in any area outside of Jamaal Charles playmaking ability and that may just be the difference in the game. I believe the game will be decided by less than 10 points, and it may be the team to reach 30 first that wins this game. Expect a close matchup and a great game as the Chiefs look to squander a 20 year playoff drought. Read more here.
