Knile Davis scores one of his two touchdowns Sunday against San Diego. (kcchiefs.com) The Kansas City Chiefs lost their final game of the season on Sunday 27-24 in overtime to the division rival San Diego Chargers. In a game where most thought it would end up a blowout, the Chiefs and their second string squad gave the Chargers quite a scare and a run for their money, but at the end of the day, the Chargers, along with AFC West opponent Broncos and Chiefs will all be headed to the playoffs this season. What went wrong? After news was spread that neither Jamaal Charles nor Alex Smith would be active for Sunday’s contest, it did not seem a whole lot would go the Chiefs way in their final regular season game. In a surprising effort out of backup quarterback Chase Daniel making his first career start, their were not many things that went wrong for the Chiefs this week. The Chiefs defense played surprisingly well in a game where there was not much to play for. The game meant a lot more for the Chargers than it did for the Chiefs, and you could definitely tell the Chiefs were the more relaxed squad. Kansas City had nothing to lose and with many players getting their first starts of the season and their careers, the Chiefs looked like the more poised squad during the game. Sure, I would have liked to see Ryan Succop make the field goal at the end of regulation for the Chiefs to finish the season at 12-4 instead of 11-5, but after a 2-14 season last year it is hard to complain. What went right? Chase Daniel and Knile Davis looked as if starting was something they had done every week this year. Chase Daniel had a well above average performance going 21/30 for 200 passing yards and one touchdown, while Davis ran the ball 27 times for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was great to see both A.J. Jenkins and Junior Hemingway get involved in the offense as well, as both have not had much contribution to the team’s offensive game plan this year. A bright note It is a little disheartening for Chiefs fans to look at their record and know that this 11-5 team started out 9-0 and finished the season on a 2-5 stretch. If you look deeper than this, however, each of the five losses the Chiefs suffered this season all came from teams that ended up being in the playoffs. Although it may not count for anything at all, it is good to know the Chiefs won the games this year they were supposed to and at least battled at the way to the end of each loss, even with second stringers playing, all season long. Up next The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card round of the playoffs next Saturday afternoon in a road contest. The Chiefs have not had much luck against the Colts in neither recent history or in general. Hopefully this is the year the Chiefs can turn it around and advance past the first round of the playoffs and possibly contend for a spot in the biggest game of the season come February. Game time: Saturday, January 4th at 4:35 PM ET at Lucas Oil Stadium. Read more here.

At a time when plenty of Steelers fans are griping about the decision to wipe what would have been a game-clinching fumble return off the scoreboard in overtime of the contest between the Chiefs-Chargers, all Steelers fans should be complaining about the failure of the officials to miss a blatant foul as the Chiefs tried to win in regulation. Don't Blame the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to put the Steelers into the playoffs on Sunday. All they had to do was beat the San Diego Chargers in San Diego with a lot of second-team players on both sides of the ball. No easy task. But the Chiefs were one field goal away from doing it. Succop missed a 43-yarder with 8 seconds on the clock in regulation. The problem is of course is...
