Ever since LT Branden Albert signed his one-year $9.8 million franchise tender last month, he has been very unhappy with the team for being slow in their attempt to lock him down long term. Albert was seeking a multi-year contract during the offseason and instead was slapped with the franchise tag. Although he would still be making a pretty penny in 2013, Albert is more concerned about his long term future and wants to have commitment, whether that’s from the Chiefs or another team. The new regime in KC are concerned about Albert’s back issues that he’s had in the past. While they said they hope to work out a long term deal with their left tackle in the future, they want to make sure it is mutually beneficial. Therefore the team has also browsed trade options for Albert. Earlier this offseason the team said they are seeking a second round pick in this year’s draft and a mid-round pick next year.
