Sunday will be the first home game of the Andy Reid era for the Kansas City Chiefs and it coincides with the first real test for Reid’s squad. The Dallas Cowboys are a stark contrast from the Jacksonville Jaguars in that Dallas is a much better team. Still, the opportunity to take a step towards making winning in Arrowhead Stadium a difficult task for visiting teams again is well within reach for Kansas City.
Both Dallas and Kansas City have had asterisks placed next to their week one victories. They “yeah, but…” for the Chiefs was the quality of their opponent while for the Cowboys it was the fact that the New York Giants turned the ball over six times and still almost beat the Cowboys at home. Both teams are not only looking to stay undefeated but add a win with unchallenged legitimacy to their credentials.
The chess pieces are moving
When Dallas is on offense, the Chiefs’ focus will be on limiting the big plays that quarterback Tony Romo, wide receiver Dez Bryant and tight end Jason Witten are capable of creating. Getting pressure on Romo has proven to be an effective way to force turnovers from the Dallas offense. Look for Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton to trust the secondary to contain Bryant and Witten while he sends the front seven towards Romo in a variety of ways.
On Kansas City possessions, the Chiefs should try to take advantage of the aggressive style of the new Dallas defense called by new coordinator Monte Kiffin. Screens, draws and counters will be employed to try to back the Cowboys off their blitz packages. If those plays are successful the Chiefs could then go to play action passes to take advantage of a Dallas defense that would be back on its heels and in a read-and-react mode.
It all hinges on this
The big matchup that may very well determine this game will be Kansas City wide receiver Dwayne Bowe vs. the Dallas secondary. Last week Giants’ wide receiver Victor Cruz drenched the Dallas defensive backs with salsa thanks to his five catches for 118 yards and three touchdowns. If Bowe can put up numbers similar to that, the Chiefs will have a good chance to win. If the Cowboys can limit Bowe then Dallas may very well leave Arrowhead with a victory.
This should be an evenly matched game between two teams looking to establish themselves. It will come down to which team can make the most big plays, or which team fails to stop the other from making big plays. The chance for the Chiefs to start reasserting home field dominance is there. Sunday’s result will tell fans whether or not the Chiefs are ready.

With a season-opening victory, Andy Reid has solidified the optimism that surrounded his hire as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year.

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By DAVE SKRETTA AP Sports Writer Tamba Hali remembers when he joined the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie, and how Jared Allen was too consumed by a spat with the front office to spend much time helping him.
Hali vowed to pass along his own wisdom someday. Well, Justin Houston showed up a few years ago and has been like sponge ever...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles was back at practice Thursday after missing the previous day's workout with a bruised thigh muscle sustained in last week's win over Jacksonville.

The career of Kansas City Chiefs Defensive End has already been disappointing, but it may have gotten worse on Sunday. After being selected 3rd overall out of LSU in 2009, Jackson has recorded just 5 sacks in four seasons. Going against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, Jackson was rushing the Quarterback when he was unexpectedly pantsed by Jags center Brad Meester. Can’t...
IRVING Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is obviously very familiar with the Dallas Cowboys. Reid has more victories coaching against the Cowboys than any other head coach in the history of the game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Reid was 17-12 against the Cowboys during his 14 seasons as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
So what's his secret to having...
Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles who suffered a quadriceps injury against Jacksonville did not fully participate Wednesday in an afternoon practice according to an injury report released by the team.

Back-to-back losses to the Dallas Cowboys in 2009 caused Andy Reid to completely revamp his roster. I recall walking into GM Howie Roseman's office in the 2010 offseason and seeing only two teams' depth charts on the wall: the Eagles and Cowboys.
Head coach Andy Reid, who had final say in all personnel decisions at that point, was disgusted by not being able to match up...
The Chiefs had an impressive week one victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars with the defense pitching a shutout in a 28-2 win. The Chiefs did have one scare in that game, Jamaal Charles left early with a quad contusion. Charles has said he is fine and that he wouldn't miss this game for anything, Charles is officially listed as probable. The Chiefs play the Dallas Cowboys...
On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will open the Arrowhead portion of their 2013 schedule by facing the NFC East beast known as the Dallas Cowboys. Though they’ve not been a dominant franchise in decades they still proudly wear the armor of their nickname. But why isn’t America’s team in the Heartland?
