Bleed Black & Gold:
New England Patriots
It is Patriot week. The third biggest week of the year. They still do not compare to either of the Ravens weeks of the year. Now I could go through 20 different key match ups in this game. There are so many people who will be going up against one another that will be huge match ups for the Steelers in this game. Here are a couple of them.
- Lawrence Timmons vs. Rob Gronkowski
- LaMarr Woodley vs. Nate Solder
- Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis vs. The Steelers Front Seven
- Wes Welker vs. Ike Taylor
- Vince Wilfork vs. Maurkice Pouncey
I could go on all day. This is a huge game and there are match up problems all over the field for both teams. The only Match Up that needs to be talked about though is the same one that has had everyone talking all week. That is Tom Brady vs. Dick Lebeau’s Zone Blitz. No matter what else happens in the game this is what will determine who wins and who loses this game.
Brady has played 7 games against the Steelers. The Patriots are 6-1 in those games. Brady has had his way with the Steelers defense. He has one 4 touchdown game, two 3 touchdown games and 2 two touchdown games. In his last 3 appearances has thrown for over 350 yards in every game. We have no ability to stop him. He does what he wants when he wants.
Brady has been able to adapt to Coach Lebeau’s schemes but Lebeau has failed to adapt to the Patriots offense. Lebeau likes to leave his base defense on the field as much as possible and Brady salivates over it. He sees those linebackers covering tight ends and wide receivers and knows where the ball is going before he even gets the snap. He looks at the mismatches and takes advantage of them every time.
Brady has also had 2 weeks to prepare for this game. The Patriots were on bye last week and were able to get some extra time in to study the Steelers. He will know what is going on all over the field. That is a disadvantage to the Steelers. If there is one thing that Brady and Belichek do better then anyone but Peyton Manning it is prepare.
If Coach Lebeau decides to leave players like James Farrior, Larry Foote and Casey Hampton on the field during passing downs where they are not effective it will crush us. We need to adapt to the Patriots style of play and not be stubborn. If Lebeau can make the changes needed and get the right guys on the field we will have a chance. If we play base defense and try to make the Patriots play our way then we are in for a long afternoon.

Tom Brady has played some outstanding games against the Pittsburgh Steelers. His next chance comes Sunday at Heinz Field.
The Patriots quarterback is 6-1 against them and has completed at least two-thirds of his passes in six of those games. Last year, he led New England to a 39-26 win at Pittsburgh in which he completed 30 of 43 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns.
Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network yesterday that before the season started a Patriots offensive player told him that Tom Brady said “Against the Steelers, don’t worry, I got it.” You can see the report here as Brady insinuates he owns Dick LeBeau. The pregame release for the Patriots game is up in PDF format and it tells us the Steelers look to open the season 4-0 at Heinz...
Tom Brady is thankful that teammate Rob Gronkowski posed for a (tasteful) photograph with an adult film star because it means he won't bear the brunt of mocking amongst New England Patriots players.
Speaking to Boston's WEEI radio, the two-time Super Bowl MVP expressed gratitude for Gronkowski's public relations nightmare. "I'm just glad I'm no longer the...

I've always been a big fan of the "If you could start an NFL franchise with one player, who would that player be?" argument, mostly because the answer is unknowable and you can spend hours quarreling over it, even getting into physical altercations as a result. It's a boatload of fun, especially if you're full of Natty Ice when you're in the middle of...
Once again, it's time for our weekly Q&A session with a blogger who covers the Patriots' upcoming opponent. Up this week is Bam from Blitzburgh Blog. Here's what Bam had to say about the Steelers and Pats leading up to Sunday's game.
1. The Steelers are 5-2, but are not really on anyone's radar. Why do you think that is and where do they stack...
