Fox Sports West:
Troy Williams steps to the line of scrimmage. Michael Davison is behind him in the backfield. Jordan Payton is to his right. To his left is Chris Harper.
This isn't a Friday night in the fall but a Thursday night in late spring.
Williams is the starting quarterback at Narbonne High School. On this night, some of his teammates are Davison and Harper from Crespi, and the Oaks Christian standout Payton.
"Its a great honor to play with these (guys). Theyre all great kids. Theyre all going D-1, so its a nice experience," says Williams.
This is 7-on-7 football. They are all members of the 1925 All Stars, a travel ball team put together by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Keyshawn Johnson and Brian Kelly.
Thursday and Friday, they're hosting the Big Man On Campus 7-on-7 tournament at the Home Depot Center.
BMOC is a training program, run by Johnson and Kelly, for high school athletes. The 1925 All-Stars are a part of the program.
The 1925 All-Stars took on Team 4th Quarter Thursday night. On the first possession of the game, Williams stepped back and found Chris Harper on a streak up the sideline just underneath the safety playing Cover 2.
Williams was just heating up and finding his groove, with 1925 playing in their second of three games on the evening.
The next play was a draw to Davison, which you are allowed to do sparingly throughout the game. After a pass interference against Team 4th Quarter, Williams found Payton on a short, stick route in the end zone.
Williams, who shares the quarterbacking duties with Tyler Steward of Sierra Canyon for the 1925 All-Stars, sat out the next possession. When given another chance, his next time out, he needed just one play to find the end zone again, connecting with Bryce Treggs, a St. John Bosco standout, on a deep post.
The 1925 All-Stars won all three of their games Thursday night.
Much like he did under the lights at Home Depot Center, Williams had bright spots starting for the Gauchos last season as a sophomore. While completing 63 of his passes, he threw for 2,597 yards with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions. This summer, like most players, is about getting better.
"My drops," says Williams. "(Keyshawn) helps me with a lot of stuff. Every time I come out to play I learn something new from him.
"He knows a lot of the reads, he knows what the safeties and corners are going to do on (every) play."
"Quarterback and receiver (are) the same thing. You got to know what he is doing. I got to know what he is doing, we got to know what each other is doing," says Johnson.
"Its just one of those deals.
"(Its) a lot of fun. We enjoy (coaching the kids). Its just one of those situations you just got to keep working at it and getting better. I like to see the kids get better and better all of the time."
