Texans coach Gary Kubiak must choose a kicker during training camp, and for a team with Super Bowl aspirations that could be a pivotal decision.
Houston drafted Lou Groza winner Randy Bullock in the fifth round, then signed veteran Shayne Graham to challenge Bullock for the job. Kubiak is looking for a replacement for Neil Rackers, who signed with Washington in the offseason. Rackers went 32 for 38 for Houston last season.
Kubiak will get his first look at his kickers in action when Houston (No. 6 in the AP Pro32) opens the preseason at Carolina (20, AP Pro 32) on Saturday. He'll decide later in the week how he'll split the opportunities for Bullock and Graham, and says he'll be watching kickoffs as closely as field-goal tries.

Starting outside linebacker Connor Barwin had some interesting things to tell us about his training camp to this point. Barwin after a hot day at camp, caught some footballs off the jugs machine before he took time out for us.
We talked to Barwin about his transition as a player from his rookie season to this year, if he was the new leader of the linebackers, and his relationship...
After Wednesday’s practice we had a chance to talk to quarterback John Beck, and it was a great experience to sit and pick the mind of this 6 year pro.
Beck let us into his transition from Washington to Houston and how much he has to work to get Kubiak’s offense, also he said how great it was to be in a situation building off from last season, and he also let us know how important...
As the first week of practice winded down, starting Houston Texans outside linebacker Brooks Reed took some time out to talk to us and how camp has been going for him.
The day before this interview J.J. Watt dislocated his elbow and he talked about how thankful it was just an elbow. Also we covered his relationship with Connor Barwin, how OTAs have already helped him at camp and...
Out at training camp today, at the half way point of “game week”, the Houston Texans were working hard today despite the rising temperature as practice continued. Plenty of small notes to pass around today from camp.

HOUSTON No matter how all of this ends for Brandon Harris, whether he earns his keep as a rotation cornerback for the Texans or drifts into the abyss as an unfulfilled second-round pick from the 2011 draft, his maturity shown during occupational adversity can't be marginalized.
Professional football players oftentimes fly off the rails at the first signs of disrespect and disregard...
The final practice before today’s day off was another positive step forward for the Houston Texans in their continued preparation for the upcoming season. Another display of improvement kept the day interesting, particularly in team segments of practice where the offense and defense compete head to head. To this point, the competition between the two units has been fairly equal...
The Houston Texans are only two days away from finally putting on the pads against an opponent with the team traveling to face the Carolina Panthers. The starters will be limited, and the second and third team players will get some much-needed time, and some will be in a NFL game for the first time. With OTAs, mimicamp and the first two weeks of training camp in the books, this is...
HOUSTON (AP) -- Houston Texans receiver Kevin Walter knew the offense would be fine from the moment T.J. Yates ran onto the field for the first time last season.
Yates, a fifth-round draft pick in 2011, was an afterthought on Houston's roster until season-ending injuries to Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart thrust him into the starting role. The former North Carolina star promptly...

Matt Schaub overall is a very good quarterback.
Schaub led the Houston Texans to a very good 10-6 record last season, but unfortunately, Matt missed most of the season because of an injury. Schaub had a pretty good season last year, ending the season with an impressive qb rating of 96.8 and completion percentage of 61.0.

After the first nine days of training camp, the Houston Texans’ coaches have finally updated their depth chart to reflect the progress of the team and the individual players. The official list can be found on the team’s website here, recreated below.
The Houston Texans have been dodging one bullet after another in regards to injuries this summer. On Wednesday, another player bit the dust, as linebacker Keyaron Fox, who was acquired by the team on July 26, went down with a knee injury.
It was announced on Thursday that the 6-3, 235-pound linebacker would be done for the year.
Fox, a former third-round pick by the Kansas City...
HOUSTON The wailing is sure to continue while the concern, whether real or imagined, will linger regardless of what transpires on Saturday.
If Texans fans aren't fretting about the right side of the offensive line, their stomachs are churning over the perceived lack of receiver depth. The Texans feature an All-Pro with a litany of lower-extremity injuries (Andre Johnson), a...
