Wednesday's practice will provide an indication of whether Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb is ready to return to the starting lineup after missing most of the past two games with a concussion. Coach Ken Whisenhunt declined on Monday to name a starter, saying it was premature to make such a decision. He acknowledged, however, that either Kolb or John Skelton needs to receive the majority of practice snaps in order to be fully prepared to play Saturday in Cincinnati. Skelton and Kolb don't have much experience in this offense, and splitting snaps in practice likely would leave the Cardinals with two quarterbacks unprepared to start. "I think that's a pretty fair assessment," Whisenhunt said when asked if one quarterback needs the majority of work in practice. "We tried to do that (split snaps) a couple of weeks ago, and neither one of them was comfortable with that. I'm not going to say that either one of them couldn't play without getting most of the reps, but as far as trying to prepare them, I think that's the fairest way to do it." The Cardinals are 4-1 in Skelton's starts, and they also beat the 49ers two weeks ago when Skelton replaced Kolb in the first quarter after Kolb suffered his concussion. While Skelton has shown improvement, his record as a starter is deceiving. The Cardinals have won four consecutive games, and six of their last season, mostly because the defense improved dramatically over that time.

Arizona Cardinals Should Have No Quarterback Controversy

Once again, I sit here and defend Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb.  Why are people so dang impatient?  We waited 20 years for a winner in Arizona.  From 1988-2008, no division titles.  Then we win two in a row and we all get so spoiled.  Why can’t we wait one more?  When Kolb went down with an injury after starting 1-6, John Skelton came in.  He’s certainly...

Skelton Fever! Look out Tim Tebow, here comes Cardinals QB John Skelton

SCOTT JACOBS To say Cardinals QB John Skelton has flown under the radar, would be the understatement of the year. The former Fordham star had some promise after being drafted in the 5th round in 2010, but to say that people thought he would be a comeback machine — well, no one could have expected that. Yet, here we are, and the Cardinals, once left for dead at 1-6, are...

He's no hero, but Skelton has Cards winning

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- John Skelton needs a signature move so fans can officially say they are Skelton-ing. Either that or we could all just take a deep breath. It might help us think more rationally than the folks living in mile-high thin air. On a day when Denvers touchdown Jesus, Tim Tebow, came back to earth with a mortal thud against the Patriots, Skelton upped his season record...

Cardinals Can Opt Out of Kolb Deal

According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network,  the Arizona Cardinals would be able to opt out of their current contract with quarterback Kevin Kolb with minimal financial ramifications. Since acquiring Kolb in a trade with the Eagles after the lockout,  he’s been nothing but a disappointment on the field with his production and inability [...]

Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb Among Inactives Vs Browns

The Cardinals will be without their starting quarterback, Kevin Kolb, who suffered a concussion in last week's 21-19 win over San Francisco. John Skelton, who is 3-1 as a starter, is the replacement. Other inactives for the Cardinals: wide receiver Stephen Williams, safety Sean Considine, linebacker Joey Porter, offensive tackle D'Anthony Batiste, receiver Jaymar Johnson...

Cardinals Coack Ken Whisenhunt In No Hurry To Name Starting QB Against Bengals

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt saw no reason to address who will be the starting quarterback when the team plays the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Kevin Kolb, still not back to “normal” after a concussion, said John Skelton took a few more reps than he did in Wednesday’s practice. Skelton started in place of Kolb on Sunday and, as he has done time and again in recent weeks,...

Week 15 Fantasy Football Preview: Browns vs. Cardinals

Cleveland Browns – 17, Arizona Cardinals – 20 The Cleveland Browns almost went into Arizona and stole a win from a Cardinals team that’s still barely alive in the playoff race. Of course, the Browns almost won in the same way they’re almost a mediocre football team… almost there, but still not even that good. Seneca Wallace (247 total yards, 1 TD...

49ers' defense faces tough task: it's no stretch

After the Cardinals' 21-19 victory over the 49ers a week ago Sunday, Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt noted that his team made some "stretch-the-field plays that we thought we could attack them with." Those field-stretchers, of course, were delivered by backup quarterback John Skelton, who had...
