For the third straight week, the Arizona Cardinals have put their big-time quarterback on the bench, and at a certain point, that may be more about performance than injury. Kolb's toe was the original reason for Kolb's absence from the Cardinals' offense, but Skelton has been far more effective in the last two games. We'll see if Skelton can continue his efficiency against San Francisco's excellent defense. In other news, both of St. Louis' starting offensive tackles, Jason Smith and Rodger Saffold, will be out against the Seattle Seahawks — in fact, Saffold has been placed on injured reserve afte he tore a pectoral muscle during a weightlifting session. Also, the Atlanta Falcons will be without the services of receiver Julio Jones, and the San Diego Chargers will be without left tackle Marcus McNeill. Note to Norv Turner: Give backup tackle Brandyn Dombrowski some help on the left edge — he can't handle speed rushers on his own, and the Bears have two ...

QB Kevin Kolb inactive for Cardinals vs. 49ers

Kevin Kolb is inactive for the Arizona Cardinals for the third straight game with a right foot injury, and he's being replaced at quarterback by John Skelton against the San Francisco 49ers. Falcons WR Jones misses practice for 3rd day in row

Atlanta Falcons rookie wide receiver Julio Jones missed a third straight day of practice Friday and has been listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Tennessee. Jones aggravated a hamstring injury in Sunday's game against NFC South rival New Orleans Saints. He had missed two games earlier in the season with an injury to his left hamstring. No practice for Julio Jones on Friday

The chances of Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones playing against the Titans on Sunday are looking bleaker after Jones missed practice on Friday. He’s officially listed as questionable after reinjuring his hamstring in last week’s loss to the Saints, but it seems unwise to push him back onto the field so quickly if the team…

Cardinals' Skelton not ready for the spotlight

Monday would be a really good day for Kevin Kolb's foot to fully heal. The St. Louis Rams are on deck and the Cardinals 2-week-old quarterback controversy is over unless you're talking about the backup spot. As predicted, the San Francisco 49ers quieted all those irrational, reactionary, semi-informed voices calling for John Skelton to steal the starting quarterback spot...

Baker could return this week, Jones might not

The Falcons released their injury report this week, and Sam Baker was listed as questionable after limited participation in all three days of practice. Falcons WR Jones out against Titans (AP)

Rookie receiver Julio Jones is inactive with a right hamstring injury, leaving Atlanta without one of its top big-play threats against Tennessee on Sunday. Jones missed practice all week after leaving the Falcons' loss to New Orleans with the injury last week. He missed two games earlier in the season with a left hamstring injury.

Skelton's dreadful game doesn't change QB status

Quarterback John Skelton's dreadful performance against San Francisco must make Arizona fans anxious for the return of Kevin Kolb. The trouble is, no one knows when that might happen. Kolb's right foot injury is showing slow progress, at best. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says Skelton will remain the starting quarterback if Kolb is forced to miss a fourth straight game when the...

49ers RB Gore good to go; Cards QB Skelton to start for Kolb

As expected, San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore is active for Sunday's tilt against the Arizona, while the Cardinals will play a third straight week without quarterback Kevin Kolb.
