GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- While Peyton Manning watched, Denver's reserves pulled out a wild one in the desert. Manning and the rest of the Broncos' starters took the fourth game of the preseason off, and Denver got a 44-yard field goal from Matt Prater as the game ended to beat the Arizona Cardinals 16-13 on Thursday night. Omar Bolden, a fourth-round draft pick from nearby Arizona State, returned a kickoff 103 yards for a touchdown to ignite a second-half comeback for Denver. In contrast to the Broncos, Arizona used 10 starters on offense and 10 on defense in the game's first few series. The Cardinals' two candidates for starting quarterback, John Skelton and Kevin Kolb, did not play. Cardinals first-round draft pick Michael Floyd made a spectacular 22-yard touchdown catch.

Kevin Kolb reportedly has edge over John Skelton

The Arizona Cardinals have yet to name a starter for week one of the regular season. Will Kevin Kolb get the nod to start the first game? (Credit: AP Photo) For some reason, the Arizona Cardinals have yet to name a starting quarterback for week one of the regular season. While neither John Skelton or Kevin Kolb have looked impressive in any of their pre-season games, it is shocking...

Kevin Kolb looking better in practice than John Skelton

Getty According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, quarterback Kevin Kolb has looked better in practice than John Skelton, but not by a lot. “From my perspective, one of the difficulties for coaches in evaluating the quarterback situation are some of the poor practice performances by John Skelton. He plays better in games, no question. And he wasn’t bad in every practice...

Kevin Kolb took not winning starting job in Arizona ‘like a pro’

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced on Friday that John Skelton had beaten out Kevin Kolb for the Cardinals’ starting quarterback job for Week 1. While both players never really distanced themselves from the other during the competition, Whisenhunt had to choose one of them. So while Skelton can now move forward and readying himself for the regular season opener...

DirecTV commercial outtakes features Eli and Peyton Manning screwing up (Video)

Even though, we are still in the NFL preseason...you have probably seen those commercials for DirecTV featuring NFL star quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning along with hall-of-famer Deion Sanders: The folks over at DirecTV have just released the awesome outtakes reel which show some rather notable screw-ups from the Manning Brothers and Prime Time himself:

Arizona Cardinals: John Skelton Is The Answer At Quarterback

Last year, a team started the season with high hopes. They believed the quarterback which they had acquired via trade and given a lucrative extension to was the answer, while a project QB sat on the bench. Then they got off to a very poor start, and had to put their project in as the starter. Lo and behold, they actually started winning! They wound up finishing 8-8, but that was a big...

QUICK SPIN: Skelton Wins Cardinals Starting QB Jobf

Sometimes you just have to admit that you messed up. That is what the Cardinals are doing. I must admit that I was wrong when in the offseason I said Kevin Kolb wasn't getting a fair shake from the media. I thought he had more in him, apparently not. John Skelton has been awarded the starting QB spot and he earned it more through his leadership and moxie than through great...

New Series: Bold Prediction #6 – QB John Skelton Saves the Day for Larry Fitzgerald

Fordham's John Skelton appears to have the upper hand on the overpaid Kevin Kolb but the Cards have yet to announce a week 1 starter. Some owners might knock perennial All-Pro WR Larry Fitzgerald down their draft baords concerns at QB but that would be a mistake especially if John Skelton ends up under center as most expect will be the case.

Report: Cardinals will name starting QB on Friday

With a little more than a week left before the start of the regular season, the Arizona Cardinals still have not named a starting quarterback, but apparently that will change Friday. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is expected to name either Kevin Kolb or John Skelton as his starting quarterback on Friday, the Sporting News reported Thursday. Whisenhunt's decision has...

Manning begins Chapter 2 of his career in Denver

The cadence rings out every time Peyton Manning is done decoding the defense and J.D. Walton is about to snap him the ball ''Hurry! Hur-ry!'' Call it the Denver Broncos' unofficial mantra for 2012. They're in quite the rush this year. They're running the no-huddle at altitude. They're mixing the four-time MVP's precision passing prowess with...

2012 NFL Regular Season Preview Pt. 1

I struggled initially with the concept of writing a comprehensive 2012 NFL regular season preview. How could I use one column space to decide Peyton Manning's impact in Denver, count Dez Bryan't security team members and say something about the Dolphins that doesn't include the words 'there's always next year'? It's a hard task, but I knew it had to be done.

John Skelton named starting QB in Arizona

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt has named John Skelton as his starting quarterback to begin the 2012 season, opting to go with the third year signal caller from Fordham University instead of Kevin Kolb. Although Kolb is set to make as much money as Aaron Rodgers this season, Whisenhunt decided that Skelton gives his team the best chance to win. “We put a lot of time and effort in making...

NFL News: Arizona Cardinals make roster moves to reach 53-man limit

The Arizona Cardinals made 22 roster moves on Friday in order to reach the NFL required limit of 53 players. After an exhaustive quarterback battle in the preseason, the Cardinals announced that John Skelton will be the starting quarterback for week one of the regular season. Expect nothing etched in stone regarding the starting quarterback position this season as Skelton will likely...

The UCF Knights (1-0), led by their running game, played spoiler to the debut of new Akron head coach Terry Bowden by forcing 4 turnovers and finished 56-14 over the Akron Zips(0-1) on Thursday night. UCF took the opening drive 73 yards and Sophomore QB Blake Bortles (13/16, 168, 3, 1) found newly converted TE Chris Martin (starting LT last year) on a 5 yard TD.  Senior RB Latavius...

Colts hoping for solid start in new Luck era

The Indianapolis Colts are ready to start over. For the first time in 15 years, Peyton Manning isn't around. For the first time in more than a decade, the Colts are not expected to contend for a division title or make the playoffs. Players understand this is reality for 2012, they just don't believe in using the r-word. ''I don't have rebuilding years in me...
