Kris Abrams-Draine 2024 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS

  • Slightly built corner with extensive experience playing outside and the slot. Played the boundary and field.
  • Significant snaps of press man on the outside both mirror match and physical. Competitive nature to his game.
  • Some strong snaps of physical press man with a one-arm jab disrupting route timing.
  • Willing to play physical in press man outside. Jammed receivers off the ball, staying in phase with his footwork.
  • Effectively matched releases in press man with fluid hip turn then had play speed to track receiver vertically.
  • Did a good job when aligned in press man, getting his head around and locating the ball on vertical routes.
  • Plant and drive burst from off coverage. Quick transition to open his hips and drive downhill with suddenness.
  • Showed transition and change of direction suddenness. Smooth athlete with fluid hips and short area twitch.

WEAKNESSES

  • There will be legitimate questions regarding his weight and thin frame to match up on the outside vs. quality WRs.
  • There were press man snaps on the outside in which he lost contact with the receiver at the top of the route stem.
  • Did not show higher-level stopping ability vs. receiver's intermediate routes. Too many steps to break down.
  • Some off-coverage snaps in which his hip transition and change of direction were a little sticky and segmented.
  • Did not show much physicality or competitive toughness defending the run on the perimeter. Threw his body.

NFL TRANSITION

Abrams-Draine is one of the better corner prospects in the 2024 draft with his traits profile and his versatility to play outside, the slot and multiple coverage concepts. Abrams-Draine is thin-framed and smaller than desired to play outside corner, but he showed the short-area quickness, hip transition and physicality to play press man.

There were many snaps in which he disrupted the receiver’s release timing with a well-placed jam off the ball. In press man, Abrams-Draine consistently matched vertical releases and stayed in phase through the route with excellent balance and body control; he was in a position to get his head around and locate the ball.

Abrams-Draine played significant snaps of off-coverage, and while he showed the sudden burst to plant and drive, there were also snaps in which he lost contact with the receiver at the top of the route stem with a little stickiness in his transitions and change of direction.

Overall, Abrams-Draine is a strong corner prospect with the athletic and competitive traits to be effective in playing press and off-coverage. Given that he has experience playing both, the question is whether teams will see him better transitioning as an outside corner or a slot corner. It might be that he gets snaps outside and inside. The bottom line is that he has the quickness and twitch to develop into a quality NFL corner with position and coverage versatility.

OTHER NOTES

Abrams-Draines came to Missouri from Alabama as a four-star recruit at wide receiver. As a freshman in 2020, he played five games at WR. Beginning with the 2021 season, he transitioned to corner and started 10 games. Abrams-Draines was a three-year starter at corner, earning First-Team All-SEC and Second-Team All-American in 2023.

Abrams-Draines played significant snaps outside as the boundary, field and slot corner in Missouri’s sub-defenses. He has outstanding positional versatility.
