PLAYERS: Kris Jenkins
TEAMS: New York Jets

In today’s New York Times, former Jets defensive lineman Kris Jenkins gave an incredibly illuminating interview to Greg Bishop about the realities of football, the mindset of the players, and the physical pain the gain imparts on their bodies. My favorite quotes are excerpted below, but I urge you to read the entire thing: You ever been in a car crash? Done bumper cars? You know when that hit catches you off guard and jolts you, and you’re like, what the hell? Football is like that. But 10 times worse. It’s hell. [...] The brain fog? It still hasn’t stopped. It feels like you’re punch-drunk, like someone hit you over the head. It’s like you knock yourself stupid. When you have to concentrate on things, then it becomes an issue. My head gets foggy to the point where I really can’t function. Then I get acupuncture. I get massage treatments. We know it’s going to hurt. We know because pain in football is consistent over time. You’re still hurting in the off-season. You’re hurting when ...

Kris Jenkins: Fans have no clue, NFL is hell

Kris Jenkins, who played defensive tackle in the NFL for 10 seasons before retiring this year, has offered up an interesting account of life in the NFL, and why it’s anything but glamorous. Jenkins shared his thoughts with Greg Bishop of the New York Times about how much pain an NFL career puts a player…

Jets still have Wild-Card chance

Don't give up hope yet.. 8 days ago, the New York Jets were 5-3 and about to take on the New England Patriots at home. The Patriots were coming off two disappointing losses in a row and the Jets appeared to be in a position to take a firm hold of the AFC East. Fast forward to today, the Jets have lost two straight games in awful fashion, sliding to a 5-5 record. The Patriots...

The Saddest Paragraph of the Season

[The Jets'] five losses are more than the Patriots, Bills, Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Titans and Raiders have. The Broncos are tied with the Jets but own the tie-breaker. Right now, the Jets are in 10th place out of 16 teams in the composite AFC standings. Taking the four division winners out of the battle for the wild cards, the Jets would have to jump over four teams...

Rex Ryan Conference Call – 11.18.11

Yesterday, a full day after the Jets’ 17-13 loss to the Broncos in Denver, Rex Ryan held a conference call with reporters on Friday. This transcript is provided by The New York Jets: First off, it was obviously a huge loss for us. At times, we did some things that were outstanding in this game, starting off with [Mark] Sanchez throwing 11 straight completions at one stretch in...

New York Jets Defense Needs Immediate Improvement

The New York Jets defense, Rex Ryan’s pride and joy, has been maddeningly inconsistent this season. They dominated in the second half against San Diego, the entire Buffalo game, and then for the first 29 minutes of the New England game. Since then they were embarrassed on a two minute drive, the entire second half against the Patriots, and after handling the Tim Tebow circus for...

Jets coach Ryan fined $75K for profanity (AP)

Rex Ryan's mouth really cost him this time. The brash New York Jets coach was fined $75,000 by the NFL for using profanity while angrily responding to a fan at halftime of New York's 37-16 loss to New England last Sunday. A 49-second video shot by a fan at MetLife Stadium shows the Jets walking off the field and when Ryan appears, someone is heard yelling, "Hey, Rex, Belichick is...

Season on the Brink

Well I can’t say I didn’t see this coming, a short week after a deflating Sunday night loss where there were a few key injuries incurred but I’m not going to make this an “I told you so” type of post because those are unproductive and douchey (doo-shee). However, I am here to assess our chances of righting the ship and salvaging what has been a season characterized by inconsistency...

Jets RBs not practicing

The Jets run game is still beset with injuries. Starting RB Shonn Greene, who left last Thursday’s game with a rib injury is still not practicing for the Jets today as well as their veteran change of pace back. That according to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini. RichCimini Not practicing: Greene (ribs), Tomlinson (knee), Slauson (apparent ankle). #Jets   New York had a big time...

Jets' Ryan fined $75K for yelling profanity at fan

The NFL fined New York Jets coach Rex Ryan $75,000 for using profane language to a fan at halftime of last Sunday night's game against the New England Patriots.

Loss to Broncos brings Sanchez’s game mismanagement into focus

He was once nicknamed "The Sanchize" during his rookie season because of his importance to the team. Now, the New York Jets might just want to sanitize themselves from third-year quarterback Mark Sanchez after another mistake cost them a win on Thursday night in a 17-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. As big as Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow's 20 yard touchdown run with...
