Houston coach Gary Kubiak found ''some ugly'' when he broke down a replay of the Texans' victory to open the preseason. The Texans beat Carolina 26-13 behind a dominant defensive effort Saturday night. The Panthers mustered only 137 yards and failed to gain a first down in the second half. But Kubiak also found plenty to criticize on Sunday. Matt Schaub threw an interception, Arian Foster fumbled and the Texans' offense sputtered in the red zone. Kubiak also said Sunday that nose tackle Shaun Cody may miss some time with a back injury. The Texans (No. 6 in the AP Pro32) play San Francisco (No. 4) in their second preseason game on Saturday.

Shaun Cody Out with Disc Issue

Today Head Coach Gary Kubiak said that starting nose tackle Shaun Cody has a back injury result of a disc issue from Saturday’s game against Carolina. Cody received an epidural for pain and will be reevaluated in the coming days to determine how long he will be out. Cody has been fighting back issues during camp, and has been given practice time off to get him ready for the season...

SOTT talks to Earl Mitchell

Nose tackle and Houston’s own Earl Mitchell came a talked to us about the upcoming season and training camp through the first week. The Texans defensive lineman answered questions about his weight gain during the off-season and talked about his sack in the playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals and what it meant to him as a Houston native.       You can follow Patrick...

Houston Texans preseason opener: What to watch for

Coming off the best season in franchise history the Houston Texans open up their preseason against the Carolina Panthers this weekend. After making the playoffs and winning a game they look to build off the success of last year. Here are somethings to watch for during the game. After trading Pro Bowl LB Demeco Ryans this offseason the Texans are now in a tough spot in terms of depth...

Texans Injury to Shaun Cody a Bigger Deal Than Most Think

I remember prior to last season, Houston fans were ready, and hopeful, for defensive tackle Shaun Cody to be one of the cuts that new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips would implement. I’m not absolved from this, as I thought it was the right move along with letting draft bust Amobi Okoye go. But, as many already knew, Phillips kind of knows what he is doing out there. Still...

Fantasy Football: Defense and Special Teams – What you should know…

Written By Fantasy Furnace – Just like with all position players, there are an elite amount of DST (defense and special teams) and the question that remains is who are the best of the rest? Our top six DST include the 49ers, Packers, Giants, Patriots, Ravens, and the Jets.   Once they’re off the board, we have put together a list of other DST and list why they should be considered...

Texans should just say no to Ochocinco

Do the Houston Texans strike you as a desperate kind of franchise? Do Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith seem like they need attention? Ever seen the Texans pull some stunt? No? Then why would they sign Chad Johnson? The 34-year-old wide receiver was released by the Miami Dolphins less than a day after he was accused of head-butting his wife and arrested. So he is available and he might...

Texans, Schaub open preseason

Matt Schaub declared the rust gone after his first action in nine months. Schaub led one scoring drive and threw an interception in his first game since breaking his right foot last season, and the Houston Texans beat the Carolina Panthers 26-13 on Saturday night in the preseason opener for both teams. Schaub completed three passes for 52 yards on Houston's opening drive, including...

Andre Johnson Will Not Play Saturday

Houston receiver Andre Johnson will not be available for Saturday night's game versus the 49ers. He's out with an injured groin.Fantasy Spin:If this were the regular season Johnson would probably be out there but since this is just a meaningless exhibition, head coach Gary Kubiak has chosen to play it safe by resting his All-Pro wide receiver.

Aldon Smith may miss the rest of preseason with hip injury

SAN FRANCISCO- The 49ers are counting on defensive sophomore beast Aldon Smith to do big things for them this year. That is why after surviving an injury-related scare during Friday night’s preseason opener against the Vikings, we probably won’t much if any of him at all for the rest of the league’s exhibition period. Panthers lose preseason opener vs. Texans

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Matt Schaub led one scoring drive and threw an interception in his first action since breaking his right foot last season, and the Houston Texans beat the Carolina Panthers 26-13 on Saturday night in the preseason opener for both teams. Schaub completed three passes for 52 yards on Houston's opening drive, including a 22-yard strike on third down the...

Houston Texans at Carolina Panthers Preseason Game Preview

After seven excruciating long months, the Houston Texans finally take the field again in tonight’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. But as many know, tonight doesn’t actually count for anything, so a full game preview is rather silly. Neither team is game planning or doing any in-game scouting, rather working on aspects of the team that need improvement. Most importantly...

Houston Texans Defeat Carolina Panthers 26-13 in Preseason Opener

The starters may have only played less than the first quarter, but there was plenty excitement during Saturday’s preseason opening win for the Houston Texans over the Carolina Panthers. The first team guys did get some solid work in, while the second and third units played outstanding to lead the way in the 26-13 victory. Special teams also had an impact as the team’s smallest...
