Waiting For Next Year:
Really really bad news for Jason Garrett you’d think, but Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Holmgren could be a fit in Dallas.
Holmgren, who is finishing up a disappointing three-year run as the Browns’ team president, has said he would consider a return to coaching, where he already has a case for potential Hall of Fame induction. Some sources who know Holmgren well believe Dallas is the one potential opening that would truly interest him, given the competitiveness of the roster, the skill players present and his long relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Holmgren and Jones worked closely together for more than a decade on the NFL’s Competition Committee. If the perfect scenario does not arise, sources close to Holmgren expect him to retire.
It would be a polar opposite scenario to what Holmgren entertained in Cleveland. In Dallas there is a (ahem) very strong owner, a roster with some semblance of talent, and potentially a head coaching vacancy.

The Dallas Cowboys are back in the playoff race even though they've had little to do with it. They were able to scratch out two wins during a five-game stretch that saw them play four of five games on the road.
It's not like they deserve to be in the thick of things with a 4-5 record, but that's exactly where they are thanks to the New York Giants losing two consecutive...
PHILADELPHIA -- Let's debate about whether it's a stroke of detail-acknowledging genius or some anal-retentive poppycock. Let's debate about whether the Dallas Cowboys' reasoning for wanting to get the ball to start the second half on the road represents an innovative path to an edge, or a reach for a 3-5 team that maybe oughta just block, tackle, throw, catch and...
IRVING, Texas Jason Garrett spent a few minutes discussing one of Tony Romo's best plays of the season after Sunday's 38-23 victory in Philadelphia.
Following his Monday press conference, the Cowboys coach went into greater detail for about 10 minutes, talking about Romo's ability to extend plays.
With the Cowboys down 17-10 in the third quarter, Romo bounced around...
Jason La Canfora reports that the Jets intend to sign a free-agent running back at some point Tuesday.
La Canfora adds that Steve Slaton and Khalil Bell are both in town for workouts, but Slaton figures to have the upper hand given that he played with Jets OC Tony Sparano while in Miami.
Bilal Powell suffered a concussion recently and Joe McKnight is dealing with an ankle...
Everything finally came together for the Cowboys Sunday in Philadelphia. Dallas scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams en route to a 38-23 victory over the Eagles.
Here are my thoughts on the Cowboys' fourth win of the season.
1.) Jason Garrett finally got the complete game effort he was seeking. The offense, defense and special teams weren't flawless by...
PHILADELPHIA - Is it detail-acknowledging genius or some anal-retentive poppycock? Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has developed a theory that might come into play to start the first and second halves at Philly today. We'll call it The 'Halftime Hotdog Hypothesis':
The Dallas Cowboys can finally talk about the NFC East race, now that they are back in it.
A week ago, the Cowboys lost to Atlanta and speculation centered on whether Sean Payton might replace coach Jason Garrett. On Sunday, there was a report that Mike Holmgren might be interested if Garrett was out.
Garrett spent all week deflecting the Payton questions, and owner Jerry Jones...
(Eds: Updates.) By SCHUYLER DIXON AP Sports Writer Somewhere in the middle of six defensive penalties that gave Philadelphia first downs, Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett turned to backup quarterback Kyle Orton to talk a little game simulation.
''I want to hear 800 hard counts in practice this week,'' Garrett recalled himself saying while watching jumpy Dallas...
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Chiefs have placed defensive lineman Gleen Dorsey on season ending injured reserve.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com also believes that Dorsey is likely done as a member of the Chiefs He’ll become a free agent after the season.
As @jasonlacanfora reported, Chiefs DL Glenn Dorsey is headed to Injured Reserve, I’m told. Expect him to leave...
The Cowboys accomplished plenty of rare things on Sunday. One that jumps off the page is the fact that they scored a special teams TD, an interception TD, and a fumble TD all in the same quarter. According to Elias, that is the first time since San Francisco did it in 1966, so any stat that gives you over 40 years to consider you can understand how rare a feat it was.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush likely won’t be back in South Beach next season.
“The Miami Dolphins face the daunting task of trying to secure a host of their core players for the long term, with running back Reggie Bush, left tackle Jake Long, top defensive lineman Randy Starks, top corner Sean Smith and top receiver Brian...
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Eagles head coach Andy Reid would be interested in coaching the Chargers he ends up being let go by Philly and San Diego ends up firing Norv Turner at the end of the season.
“The Chargers have been near the top of their division for years and have a former Pro Bowl quarterback in his prime in Philip Rivers. Reid is a native of Southern...
The Jets have struggled running the ball this season and have suffered injuries at running back.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Jets are working out running backs and intend to sign one today. Steve Slaton and Khalil Bell are among them. Slaton played for offensive coordibnator Tony Sparano in Miami. Source: The Redzone Attached Thumbnails
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported on Sunday that Mike Holmgren would be interested in taking over as the Cowboys head coach, should the job become available.
Holmgren reportedly likes their roster and the fact that he does have ties to owner Jerry Jones suggests that it’s at least a remote possibility.
“Of course, Mike Holmgren is a heck of a coach,” said Jerry Jones...
