Rookie Eddie Lacy is learning on the job in the Packers' backfield. Lacy was drafted in the second round out of Alabama to help give Green Bay's running game a boost. He had a so-so NFL debut last week with 14 carries for 41 yards and his first career touchdown. Lacy also fumbled deep in his own territory. The turnover set up a touchdown for San Francisco in the season-opening 34-28 loss. Coach Mike McCarthy says Lacy is off to a good start this week getting ready for the Redskins in the home opener Sunday. He wants Lacy to work on the little things and details in practice. The passing game with Aaron Rodgers appears to be in midseason form. But the Packers also want to limit their series of three-and-outs.

Rookie Eddie Lacy learns lesson during 'timeout' after first-half fumble

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Eddie Lacy has been nervous before every game he's ever played in. In the minutes leading up to the BCS National Championship eight months ago when he rushed for 140 yards and scored two touchdowns, Lacy had butterflies. Throughout his football life it has always taken him a few plays until the jitters go away. As Lacy stepped on the field for his NFL debut...

Eddie Lacy Used As Featured Back in Week 1

Packers rookie running back Eddie Lacy was not in a shared situation in Green Bay's opener with San Francisco.Fantasy Spin:Lacy was on the field for 41 of 62 plays while backup James Starks was on the field for just seven plays. Lacy rushed for 41 yards and a score against a stout 49ers defense, but should find more running room against Washinton next Sunday.

Clay Matthews says he's 'awesome player' not 'dirty'

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Clay Matthews didn't want to look back on the San Francisco 49ers or on Jim Harbaugh's comments that criticized the Green Bay Packers' star outside linebacker. However, Matthews did offer one quick response to Harbaugh and the 49ers. "I'm an awesome player, not a dirty player," Matthews said Thursday in the locker room. The day after...

Jermichael Finley flew to Minnesota to treat toe injury

The Green Bay Packers have a better offense when Jermichael Finley is on the field. It's too soon to say if he'll be available for their Week 2 matchup against the Washington Redskins. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Finley traveled to Minnesota this week to receive treatment on his injured toe. A source close to the tight end said Finley was hurt...

Packers LB Mathews closer to return

While his teammates are getting ready for their Monday Night Football showdown with Chicago, Clay Matthews will be at the doctor's office. The Green Bay Packers' standout linebacker hasn't played since breaking his right thumb against Detroit on Oct. 6, but when he gets the pins removed from the thumb on Monday -- a fact he confirmed Wednesday -- he will be one step...

Green Bay Packers: 2013 Week 2 NFL Power Rankings (#6)

The good news for the Packers is they won’t face the 49ers every week. They’ll still win 10-12 games and be in the mix in the NFC. But it has to be concerning the way Jim Harbaugh has destroyed Dom Capers in the coaching part of the game 3 times in 2 years. There are no guarantees the Packers won’t have to face the 49ers again in the post-season. If that happens, the Packers...

Black, Blue, and Ornery: Aaron Rodgers “last line of defense” against San Francisco 49ers

Good morning, folks! Welcome to the Water Cooler Sports’ Black, Blue and Ornery, your source for NFC North News on this Wednesday, September 11th, 2013. Packers' Matthews moving on after 49ers game

Clay Matthews is moving on from the 49ers game as only he can. The Packers' pass-rushing linebacker says he's focused on preparing for Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins in the home opener Sunday. Reporters pressed him with questions anyway related to San Francisco and the late hit on Colin Kaepernick. Asked if he had received word from the NFL on a potential...

McCarthy: Packers 'stay above' responding to Harbaugh's comments

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy responded publicly Monday to Jim Harbaugh’s comments about Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews. McCarthy also spoke privately to his team in the aftermath of Harbaugh’s press conference during which time he labeled Matthews’ out-of-bounds hit on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as a “cheap shot.” Said McCarthy “I have no idea what...

Redskins-Packers Preview

A quarterback known mostly for his mobility sat back and picked apart the Green Bay Packers' defense through the air last week, leaving half of the team's defensive game plan in ruins. Not much went according to plan for Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins in their opener either, mainly due to their once-dynamic running game being held in check. Green Bay faces...
