The San Diego Chargers will announce later this afternoon that they will sign RB LaDainian Tomlinson to a one-day contract in order to allow the veteran running back to retire as a member of the team which drafted him 2001. Tomlinson was a free agent after playing out his two-year contract with the New York Jets, but drew no interest from teams around the league. The five-time Pro Bowler has compiled a Hall of Fame resume in his 11 seasons in the NFL. Eight consecutive seasons of over 1,000 yards. 13,684 career rushing yards (ranks 5th all-time). 162 total touchdowns (ranks 3rd all-time). 145 rushing touchdowns (ranks 2nd all-time). Tomlinson holds the all-time record for most total touchdowns scored in a single season, 31, a number he reached in 2006, the same year he was named the NFL MVP.
