Earlier this month, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said he would be “shocked” if running back Matt Forte did not sign his franchise tender by July 16. Cutler went on to say, “I would be shocked if he doesn’t sign his tender by July 15, or whenever it is, and he shows up. It would really be a surprise to me,” Cutler said. “At the end of the day, I think Matt knows it’s business. He’s still getting seven-whatever-million dollars to play this year. So he’s gonna show up.”

Lance Briggs has a different opinion on Forte’s contract situation. During an interview with ESPN Chicago Briggs said he is not sure what Forte will do when it comes to signing his tender but that he will not be angry if he decides to hold out. Briggs added, “I hope … I don’t know, I don’t know. I’ve been in similar situations with what Matt Forte is going through, but like I said, I don’t know. I hope so. I want him there. But I also want him to get paid the way he needs to get paid.”

The Matt Forte contract situation seems confusing to me. I am not sure why the Bears are not jumping to extend their best offensive player. Forte was on pace to lead the NFL in rushing yards last season before getting injured. If the Bears expect to compete with the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions they need to keep all of their offensive firepower. Forte should be extended before the deadline passes.

Interesting Study Of True Value: Chicago Bears, Matt Forte Contract Dispute

It isn’t often I look at an NFL contract dispute and take the side of the franchise. Holdouts are nothing new in the realm of the National Football League. Big name franchise players are doing so as I type (Drew Brees, Maurice Jones-Drew, possibly Darrell Revis). But there’s one contract situation that’s gotten too out of control: the Chicago Bears vs. RB Matt Forte.  I get...

LB Lance Briggs calls the Chicago Bears paper champions

Chicago Bears Offense: Reason For Concern

Martz is out. That miserable old system that just begs to have Jay Cutler carted off the field in pieces is a thing of the past. Now he can rest behind a more solid offensive line scheme. Bears fans everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief and preparing...

Brandon Marshall: The key to Jay Cutler’s ignition

Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall have been re-united with the Bears and should produce big things in 2012. The Chicago Bears had arguably the worst corps of receivers in the NFL last season. Even after missing four games, Matt Forte still led the team, from the backfield, with 52 receptions. The top two receivers on the depth chart, Johnny Knox and Roy Williams, caught 37...

Is Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall a Top-10 Fantasy Option?

Brandon Marshall could be elite with Jay Cutler throwing the ball to him again. I am sure there are a lot of members of Windy City Gridiron that are heavily into their fantasy football. It’s not something I have really got into in the past, but I plan on getting serious about it this year. With that said, there aren’t many Bears players that seem to come up when discussing...

Youkilis To Begin Dating Jay Cutler’s Sister

The trade to the White Sox couldn’t have worked any better for Kevin Youkilis.  Now he can just chuck all of his clothes in with some bleach.  I imagine him and Ventura will get along thick as thieves.  They can bond over how they were both publicly beat up.  Ventura by Nolan and Youuuuuuuuk by the Red Sox.  Talk about a club turning on one of its biggest fan favorites. ...
