After an active (and surprising) first week of free agency, the Saints are left with one major hole left to fill: pass rush. Junior Galette seems to be a rising star, but as Rob Ryan continues to implement his 3-4 scheme the position opposite Galette becomes more and more important. Cam Jordan is a stud and he’ll still provide pressure, although he will continue to move inside and provide that movement from the 3-4 defensive end position rather than the outside linebacker/pass rusher position. That means the Saints are in need of an athletic defensive end that can create rush opposite Galette, and it looks like that is the direction they will go in the first round of the 2014 draft. Right now it looks like both Dee Ford of Auburn and Kony Ealy of Missouri will be available at number 27 overall, and both guys fit the Saints need. Ealy is arguably the better pass rusher, but Ford may prove to be better overall. Plus, Ford has played the 3-4 outside linebacker while Ealy is more of a traditional 4-3 defensive end. Either way, in my mind either of these guys have the potential to flourish in the Saints system.
