The New England Patriots re-signed inside linebacker Bobby Carpenter and released defensive lineman Terrell McClain. Carpenter, a six-year veteran drafted in the first round by the Cowboys in 2006, has played with the Dolphins and Lions since being dealt out of Dallas. He signed with the Patriots in April but was released on Sept. 1 in final roster cuts. McClain was signed last week. The former third-round pick started 12 games with the Panthers in 2011. The Patriots also made two practice squad transactions, signing tight end Alex Silvestro and releasing offensive lineman Thomas Austin.

Wes Welker says Tom Brady was cursing at him and Deion Branch

During the Patriots win over the Bills on Sunday, Tom Brady did something he rarely ever does — rushed for a touchdown. Brady’s knee touched the ground at almost the exact same time the ball crossed the plane, so the play was automatically reviewed as a scoring play. When the officials announced that the touchdown stood as called on the field, CBS showed Brady on the sidelines...

Devin McCourty Responding to Criticism With Return to Pro Bowl Form in Patriots Secondary

Devin McCourty's 2011 season was a cause for concern. The same cornerback who was selected to the Pro Bowl during his rookie season just a year earlier had suddenly forgotten how to play the position. While the whispers of McCourty's struggles began to grow into rumblings at the end of last season, aided by his eventual switch to safety by season's end, they echoed even...

Wes Welker says Tom Brady was cursing at him and Deion Branch on the sideline

During this past Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills, the CBS Sports cameras caught Patriots quarterback cursing on the sidelines. Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker told WEEI’s Mut and Merloni that Brady’s cursing was aimed towards him and Deion Branch. “I think it was kind of directed at, towards me and Deion (Branch) a little bit,” Welker said, via the Boston Globe. “We...

Chandler Jones drawing comparisons to Jason Pierre Paul

Comparing anyone to the Giants Jason Pierre-Paul just isn’t fair. And Patriots DE Chandler Jones is not quite in that class in terms of physical gifts yet, he is getting closer. Jones is close because of his incredibly long frame and arms, smooth movement skills and the natural strength to anchor or bull rush against bigger men. He has been extremely impressive thus far as a pass...

Patriots-Bills reaction, Beatdown in the Bronx for Red Sox

Unlike the past two weeks there isn’t much of a negative story line with the Patriots following their 52-28 win over the Bills on Sunday. The defense generated a pass rush and limited the third-best running attack in the league to only 98 yards rushing. They also forced four interceptions, including two by Devin McCourty who was the major topic of discussion last week. Wes Welker...

Hot Button Questions

So today, we are going to get into three hot button issues facing the Patriots currently. As always, follow me @CultOfBelichick-Tavon Wilson or Steve Gregory, who should get more snaps? So, I touched on this a little bit yesterday here, but I think this topic needs to be taken into a little more detail. So far his snap count looks like this, starting from Week 1: 42 (rotation with...
