Fullback Brian Leonard doesn’t know when a new collective bargaining agreement will be reached, but he does know that it will make him an unrestricted free agent, reports Dave Shea of the Watertown (NY) Daily Times.

“Right now I am a restricted free agent, but once the new CBA is signed, I become an unrestricted free agent, which allows me to shop around and see if any other teams are interested,” Leonard said. “But I really like living in Cincinnati and I like playing for the Bengals. They really know how to use a back with my skills.”

A second-round pick out of Rutgers by the St. Louis Rams in 2007, Leonard had 303 yards rushing and 30 receptions for 183 yards in 16 games as a rookie, but missed most of the 2008 season with a shoulder injury. Traded to the Bengals for defensive tackle Orien Harris in May of 2009, Leonard has 36 carries for 145 yards with 50 receptions for 354 yards and a touchdown over the last 25 games.

Leonard finished 2010 on injured reserve (ankle), but has been working out with fellow former Scarlet Knights — including Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Jeremy Zuttah and the McCourty brother, New England Patriots Pro Bowl cornerback Devin and Tennessee Titans cornerback Jason — and says he’s in the best shape of his life.

“I am in the best physical condition that I have been in for the past couple of years, and I am ready to get back to playing football,” Leonard said. “It has been a big part of my life since I was a little kid. I am in great shape and now I have to be ready to get into camp as fast as I can and get into football shape.”
