Great news on the free agent front, as the Eagles agreed to terms with one of their own early this morning. The All-Pro fullback's three-year deal is worth $11 million total, with $6.5 (that's more than half, BTW) coming in the form of guaranteed dollars. That's a serious payday for a fullback.
The two sides had been discussing a contract extension for weeks, with things really heating up the past few days. They spent most of yesterday ironing out the details, and it was only a matter of time before his name went on the line.
This was a no-brainer. Weaver can do it all on the field, which is a big departure from the platoon of Dan Klecko and Tony Hunt, who couldn't do anything on the field. He also has the ability to take snaps as a halfback, lending a dynamic trait to their offense that almost no other team in the league can match. A fan favorite, and good to have him in the fold for awhile.
