Another Boston area paper is talking about the Patriots overstocking at the Tight End position and wondering who the cuts are going to be. Unfortunately I thought the Jets would get to snag one of theirs, but maybe there’s a curveball which I didn’t anticipate. Of the tight ends currently on the Patriots roster, at least one, possibly two, will be released before the season starts. New England usually carried two, sometimes three tight ends last year, but occasionally kept four. After the loss of Heath Evans to free agency, the Patriots have no fullback on the roster which means they may keep an extra tight end for blocking purposes. The loss of Evans, one of the team’s best blockers was a tough loss for the Patriots, but keeping an extra Tight End might be their move here, meaning slim pickings for the Jets off their roster.
