PLAYERS: Jahvid Best
TEAMS: Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best, who missed 11 games last year after sustaining his second concussion of the season, is expected to be cleared for football contact in June, according to what Lions general manager Martin Mayhew told a radio station, the Lions' official website reported Tuesday. "He's been doing everything in the offseason program and we expect he'll be cleared sometime probably in June," Mayhew told Mike O'Hara and Ken Brown on WJR radio on Monday night. "We look forward to having him on the field." Best has had a number of concussions in his college and pro career, and the Lions have been cautious with him. But it appears Best will be a participant in all activities in June's mini-camp and in training camp, which begins in late July. "Those doctors felt like it just made sense to do that in June," Mayhew said. "It gives him the most time. We are not doing anything (now) that involves any contact ...

Final say on the Detroit Lions’ draft

When Iowa tackle Riley Reiff dropped to the Detroit Lions at pick number 23, I had high expectations for the 2012 draft class. After watching Detroit follow one puzzling pick with another in the rounds thereafter, my expectations have dropped significantly. Yes, Reiff was a good pick and will likely improve the Lions offensive line right away, but drafting wide receiver Ryan Broyles...

2012 Detroit Lions Draft Grade

Raise your hand if you are waiting for the Detroit Lions to come back to earth and be the Lions that we all have known for so long. It’s been an interesting turn of events for the Lions in their recent history and as a Cardinals fan, I am happy for them.  I know the feeling and frustration of being a perpetual doormat, or being told, we are almost there, just be patient. Then...

Detroit Lions 2012 Draft Grades

23. OT Riley Reiff AI had Riley Reiff 12th on my board, but I also had Bryan Bulaga high. I had a feeling Reiff, a similar player, could experience a similar fall on draft day and actually had Reiff to the Lions in my 2nd to final mock draft, but moved him back up to 15 (to Jacksonville after a trade down) in my final. The Packers took Bulaga at this exact same spot, 23, 2 years...

Lions draft Albion College CB Chris Greenwood

The Detroit Lions drafted some bigger names from big-time schools this past weekend.  Three players from Oklahoma one from Iowa.  And they also took a couple from smaller schools – New Mexico State, Temple and Louisiana-Lafayette.  In the sixth round, they drafted a cornerback from Division III Albion College in Albion, Michigan.  His name is Chris Greenwood. Greenwood became...

Lions wide receiver and Madden ’13 cover boy Calvin Johnson was asked by David Letterman to give the Top 10 list last week.  The topic: “Advice for Young Athletes.” Listening closely, youngsters. 10. REPORT-Lions RB Jahvid Best could return to practice in June

After months of speculation as to when Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best might return to the field, it was reported on Tuesday that Best could finally return to the field in mid-June. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew told WJR-AM radio he envisions June as the return of Best to practice. “He’s been doing everything in the off-season program, and we expect he’ll be cleared sometime...

LIONS FILL HOLES AND MORE WITH DRAFT PICKS The Detroit Lions ended the regular season on a high note making the playoffs for the first time since 1999. Their playoff run ended abruptly with a 45-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints and with that loss the Lion defense came under close scrutiny. Their inability to stop the Saints in the second half raised eyebrows around town and, coupled...

2012 NFL Draft recap

ALLEN PARK, Mich. The Detroit Lions didnt get their much-needed cornerback in Thursday nights first round of the NFL Draft, but they did make a move to try to protect star quarterback Matthew Stafford well into the future. For only the second time in the last 11 years, the Lions took an offensive lineman in the first round, even though the club has all five starters up front returning...
