Lions confirm Adrian Peterson signing, place Bo Scarbrough on IR

The Detroit Lions confirmed on Monday that the club has signed future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson and placed ball-carrier Bo Scarbrough on injured reserve. Scarbrough will miss at least three weeks of the season.

As ESPN's Michael Rothstein noted, the 35-year-old back told NFL reporter Josina Anderson he was joining the Lions over the weekend.

Peterson was a surprising cut made by the Washington Football Team on Friday. In Detroit, he reunites with Darrell Bevell, the offensive coordinator he once worked with while featuring for the Minnesota Vikings.

Even without Scarbrough, the Lions possess a crowded backfield that now includes Peterson, D'Andre Swift, Kerryon Johnson and Ty Johnson. Across 15 games last year, Peterson accumulated 898 yards on 211 carries, good for 4.3 yards per attempt. He's currently fifth in all-time NFL rushing yards.
