ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Ndamukong Suh will get a warm reception from defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham when he returns to the Lions Monday after serving a two-game suspension. But Cunningham is being considerably cooler toward Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen because of the disparaging comments Allen made earlier in the week about the city of Detroit. The Lions play the Vikings at Ford Field on Sunday, and Allen made his comments to a Minneapolis radio station Thursday. I dont like coming to Detroit, Allen said. Its gloomy. It sucks. Everythings brown. Theres snow on the ground. If I had to live in Detroit, I think Id drown myself in the river. Allen played for Cunningham in Kansas City, and Cunningham has a high regard for him as a player. But his comments briefly raised Cunninghams ire. Hes not good enough to live here, Cunningham said Friday. I know him well. This is too tough of a town for him. I love Jared Allen. He makes all those comments, and I hope he didnt learn them all from me. Cunningham told a story about a day when he stopped in Detroit and was greeted by fans wishing him good luck. He got out of the car and signed autographs. His advice to Allen: Jared, if you come to town, good luck. Youre not going to get to sign autographs. Suh can report to the Lions on Monday after sitting out two games for stomping on a Packers play in the Lions Thanksgiving Day loss. Under terms of the suspension, Suh was not allowed to have any contact with the Lions while under suspension. Cunningham remains a big supporter of Suh. I dont just say he a great man and not mean it, Cunningham said. Behind those words theres a lot of meaning. I think hes one of the most outstanding young men I ever met in my life. I dont care what the rest of the world says. Basically they can say what they want, but I can, too. This guy plays football, Yeah, theres something that triggers him. Hes coached by a guy who gets triggered by a lot of things. To me, what happened in the game is in the past. When he comes back here, if I see one of our players blink, theyre going to have to deal with me. And Ive told them that already. And they all support him, and i support him as much as humanly possible. Thats how were going to start off.
