Lions running back Joique Bell believes he'll be back by training camp, but not in time to participate in mandatory minicamp, he told mlive.com's Kyle Meinke. The 27-year-old has missed the first five weeks of OTAs due to the knee injury, and "isn't optimistic" he'll be able to perform in the sixth and final week of workouts. He also wasn't sure if he'd be able to participate in minicamp since he hasn't quite nailed down a timetable yet.#458911797 / gettyimages.com"My timetable is this, man: I'm working as hard as I can to get back as soon as I can," Bell said. "As soon as I feel I'm at a position where I can go out there and not hurt myself, that's when I'll be back out there."Bell battled tendonitis in his knee for most of last season, but that didn't stop him from enjoying a breakout year. He ran for 650 yards on 166 carries while hauling in 53 catches for 547 yards and eight touchdowns.Even though Bell can't carry the ball for Detroit yet, he's still remaining active. The Lions have a drill where four quarterbacks throw the ball to four wide receivers simultaneously. When there is a fifth wideout, Bell takes the role of fifth quarterback."I just like to show all my talents out there. I like to throw just in case they want to throw in a halfback pass here or there," Bell said. "There hasn't been any talk about that, but just in case you want to know, I did play quarterback a little bit in college, in high school." Like what you're reading?
