Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best was not cleared Monday after taking post concussion tests last week and will not be permitted to return to the field yet. Best hasn't played in a calendar year due to his most recent concussion, but was hopeful the battery of tests he underwent last week would finally clear him medically when he became eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list Monday. "After today's consultation with medical experts, including representatives from our medical and training staffs, it has been determined that Jahvid will not be permitted to return to play at this time," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said in a statement. "Throughout this entire process we always have placed the highest priority on what is best for Jahvid from a health and safety standpoint," Mayhew continued. "While today's decision is disappointing from a football perspective, we fully and entirely respect and support this recom...

Detroit Lions come back to win thriller over Eagles

It’s amazing how a great fourth quarter can erase three quarters of absolutely pitiful play. After trailing the Philadelphia Eagles 13-6 after three frames, Matthew Stafford and the Detroit offense awoke from their slumber, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter.Detroit kicker Jason Hanson made a 19-yard field goal to send the game to overtime, then drilled a 45-yarder to win it...

Scouting the Opposition: Detroit Lions must win battle against Matt Forte

It's deja-vu all over again for the Detroit Lions, who face off against the Chicago Bears in a highly anticipated Monday Night Football battle in October once more. For Chicago, last year's prime time game in Detroit was ugly from the start, and the Bears fell to the Lions on the road. This time around, they'll be looking for some swift payback at home in the week'...

Jahvid Best Won't Be Cleared To Play This Season

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions have announced that running back Jahvid Best (concussions) will not be permitted to return to play.Fantasy Spin:Tough break for Best, who was attempting to return when first eligible in Week 7. The running back has not played in more than a year and it remains to be seen if he will ever return to the game.

Burleson, Lions get their 'nasty' back

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions receiver Nate Burleson felt his team, on a three-game losing streak, needed to regain its swagger. So when he scored a touchdown Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles to help cut a deficit to three points with 3 minutes remaining, Burleson pretended to point a rifle in the air and shoot -- you got it -- an Eagle. A day later, after the Lions...

Kevin Smith a Healthy Scratch For Lions

Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith is a healthy scratch for Week 6 against Philadelphia.Fantasy Spin:After being the lead back over the first two weeks, Smith didn't see a carry in either of the next two games. It's obvious he's not part of the Lions future plans and should be let go for a more viable fantasy option.

Calvin Johnson Tallies 135 Yards vs. Eagles

Lions receiver Calvin Johnson caught six balls for 135 yards against the Eagles.Fantasy Spin:Johnson, like his quarterback, is suffering because he isn't getting into the end zone, but at least he's averaging an excellent 111 ypg to keep fantasy owners from getting upset. Johnson has just one touchdown reception in five games after hauling in nine in the first five games...

Lions rally to beat Eagles in overtime

The Detroit Lions quite possibly saved their season Sunday with a fourth-quarter rally and a 26-23 overtime victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. For more than three quarters, the Lions looked down and out and headed to their fourth straight loss and a 1-4 start. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was playing like anything but the face of a franchise, misfiring on passes and unable to...

Lions rally to beat Eagles 26-23 in OT

Desperate to save a season, Matthew Stafford rallied the Lions in the fourth quarter. With a chance to cap an unlikely comeback, Jason Hanson finished the job in OT. Down 10 points in the fourth period, Stafford put a miserable start behind him, scrambling into the end zone and completing big-gain passes. Hanson delivered in the clutch just like he has so many times through the...

Lions come alive late to beat Eagles

Held in check most of the game, Matthew Stafford rallied the desperate Detroit Lions to victory. Jason Hanson kicked a 45-yard field goal in overtime and the Lions overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 26-23 on Sunday. Lions keep season alive with a thrilling overtime win

I would like to take this opportunity to nominate the Lions for the award of most entertaining team to watch. With them, there's never a dull moment. The Lions trailed the Eagles 13 to 23 with about five minutes left to play, but in classic fashion, they never gave up, and their late game efforts culminated with a Jason Hanson game winning field goal on the Lions' first...

Hanson's OT field goal propels Lions past Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- The Detroit Lions trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter and all the momentum was in the other huddle. In other words, the Lions had the Philadelphia Eagles right where they wanted them. "We always feel that we're at our best when things look the worst," Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson said. "And things looked pretty bad.” That's...

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Five things to watch

The bye week is finally over, and the Detroit Lions are back on the road. Awaiting them are the Philadelphia Eagles, a tough NFC East opponent. The Eagles have had problems of their own early this season with turnovers, but are still a respectable 3-2. For the Lions to gain back some momentum and dignity, they'll have to play much better in a tough road environment, if not win...
