Joique Bell didn’t want to talk about his bruised ribs after practice Friday so he grabbed a black marker and a blank sheet of paper and he wrote about them instead. How do you feel one reporter asked? “Good” Bell wrote. Have you ever played with a flak jacket on for protection? “Ask Coach” Bell wrote. How much pain are you in? “A lot” he wrote adding two exclamation points for emphasis. Bell is listed as questionable on the Lions’ injury report but he was still moving gingerly about five days after he said he felt his rib pop in the second half of a 31-17 win over the Cleveland Browns. Bell did not finish that game and practiced on a limited basis this week. He’ll likely wear some sort of protection if he plays Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals and after he spoke to reporters Friday he peeled a numbing patch off his left side. “It’s just part of the game” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. “He wouldn’t be the first running back to have some sore ribs and be able to go out

NFL explains why they fined Ndamukong Suh; “To get his attention”

During Friday’s edition of NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access,” NFL vice president of operations Merton Hanks explained why Suh was fined more than the league minimum for what appeared to be a borderline offense. “The fine amount is more than the minimum because he is a repeat offender, and I want to get Ndamukong Suh’s […]

Helmets, not players, are NFL’s concussion problem

In the past ten or so years, technology has skyrocketed in the NFL. From the equipment to injury protocol to the game itself, the league has evolved along with seemingly everything else. The game has gotten faster, the players have gotten stronger, and medical attention has drastically increased. There is no such thing as “getting your bell rung” anymore- the concussion protocol...

Lions rookie punter Martin worth draft pick

Punters and kickers aren't the most popular picks in the NFL Draft. Every once in a while however it’s necessary for teams to make that investment. They just can’t make a mistake and waste the pick. Otherwise they’re going to look very foolish. The Detroit Lions never regretted taking a kicker Jason Hanson in the second round in 1992 and it appears they have found another...

Jim Schwartz-Marvin Lewis bond remains strong - until game time

At some point early Sunday morning Lions coach Jim Schwartz and Bengals coach Marvin Lewis will embrace and have a quick chat.
