via The Big Lead With the three left tackles off the board in the first four picks, the Lions look a raw, able-bodied defensive end from BYU.  His name is Ezekiel Ansah, but you’ll know him as Ziggy.  He stands 6-5¼, 271 lbs. His numbers that mean nothing, but are overused by scouts and “experts”: Arm length: 35-1/8″ Hand size: 10-1/4″ 40-yard dash time: 4.73 Ziggy will fill a hole that was created by the departures of Kyle Vanden Bosch and Cliff Avril.  Odds are, he’s a starter from day one, which is exactly what the Lions need.  Did they need a tackle?  Yes.  But, they weren’t in a position to trade up to get one.  The Lions have many needs and couldn’t sacrifice giving up a pick to jump to the third pick to take Lane Johnson out of Oklahoma. The Lions did not bring Ezekiel in for a visit, but they coached him during the week of the Senior Bowl, so they were well aware of his attributes.  He’s only been playing football since 2010 after playing soccer and basketball all his life. Here’s ESPN.com’s write-up on what Ezekiel brings: What he brings: Ansah has an elite combination of size and raw athleticism, but he is relatively inexperienced. However, on tape he shows natural instincts coupled with explosive power and excellent closing burst for a 271-pounder. He also has good versatility, with the ability to reduce inside and provide some interior pass rush. With his frame, tools and freakish athleticism, he has the potential to become a Pro Bowl-caliber player. And while that’s all fine and good.  I know one thing – the Lions better hope that he’s the ANSAH for their pass rushing issues.
