Tim Twenytyman of rpeorts that the Lions have signed CB Rashean Mathis. CB Trevor Coston was released to make room for the more experienced Mathis. In the past few days, the Lions have also signed veterans DT Justin Bannan and LB Rocky McIntosh. Mathis, who will be 33 years old later this month, is no longer the Pro-Bowler he once was, especially after having torn his ACL in 2011. However, he will add some much needed veteran presence on a young Lions defense. Mathis more than likely will be a package or rotation player as long as his knee remains healthy enough. Jaguars looking to make their Marks on D

The Jacksonville Jaguars defense in 2012 was a disaster of a unit. Busted coverages, no pressure, and players consistently not trusting each other to play in their roles, led to the worst defense that the Jaguars have ever had. 2013 is looking like there could be a huge turnaround for the unit. New player acquisitions like Sen’Derrick Marks and Roy Miller, draftees Jonathan Cyprien...

Lions Will Bring In CB Rashean Mathis For A Visit Saturday

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Lions will bring in former Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis for visit on Saturday. Detroit is also bringing in free agent OT Phil Trautwein for a tryout on Saturday. (Aaron Wilson) Mathis, 32, has found no reported interest this offseason since his contract with the Jaguars expired. He suffered a torn ACL back in 2011, which most likely impacted...

Jaguars vs. Jets Preseason Game: 5 Things We Learned

I am not one who worries too much about special teams play or what happens in the fourth quarter when a third-string quarterback adds a touchdown or two to run up the score. There are 90 players on each side of the ball trying to make a football team. The Jaguars lost 37-13 in a game that looked lopsided but only got out of hand after the half, which leads me to believe there are some...

Jaguars' first-team offense steps up against Jets

Bright lights, big city, bigger numbers. The decision by the Jacksonville Jaguars to start Blaine Gabbert for a second week in a row looked downright brilliant Saturday night because Gabbert was, well, downright brilliant. One week after the Jaguars came away empty on all four possessions led by him, Gabbert expertly guided the no-huddle offense against the New York Jets to 10 points...

Why Jacksonville Jaguars Can Be Among Most Exciting Teams in NFL

It is a challenge to watch poorly played football. Incompletions, dropped passes, fumbles, and whatever other signs of ineptitude you can think of are annoying.Which is why teams that feature many players known for their lack of skill are often ignored on Sundays when we flip through the channels. What if I told you that, despite being one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Jaguars...

Jags QB Blaine Gabbert Sprains Thumb

Jags QB Blaine Gabbert sprained his thumb on the follow-through when he hit a Jets defender in the helmet.  He left the game after the injury, going 13-16 for 165 yards.  Jags coach Gus Bradley stated that Gabbert was due to come out, so he didn’t miss any planned snaps X rays negative on Blaine Gabbert Gus said #Jaguars — J.P. Blaine Gabbert solid despite Jaguars' loss to Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Mark Sanchez might have left the door open a bit for Geno Smith with another up-and-down performance for the New York Jets. Blaine Gabbert, meanwhile, might have settled the Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback competition -- as long as his thumb is OK. Sanchez led the Jets on five scoring drives through three quarters in a 37-13 victory over the...

Jaguars-Jets Preseason: 6 Reasons We Will Watch

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to New York to meet the hapless Jets in week two of the preseason.  The Jaguars enter the game with even less expectations than the Jets.  Only the Jaguars do it with much less national scrutiny. No one believes either team will make it pass the regular season.  Neither team is loaded with fantasy football potential.  One team is starting with a...

Lions add Bannan, McIntosh and Mathis

The Detroit Lions are clearly not content with their depth on defense. In the last couple days, the Lions have added three defensive players a tackle, a linebacker and a cornerback with a combined total of 28 years of NFL experience. The newcomers include tackle Justin Bannan (6-foot-3, 305 pounds), linebacker Rocky McIntosh (6-2, 235) and cornerback Rashean Mathis (6-1, 200...
