Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions will release wide receiver Bryant Johnson to open up salary cap room.
Johnson was due to make $3.2 million in base salary this year, an exorbitant amount for a No. 4 receiver coming off an 18-catch season. Johnson never lived up to his three-year, $9 million deal, managing just 53 catches, 627 yards, and three TDs in two seasons. Second-rounder Titus Young will take over as Detroit’s third receiver.
