The official open to the NFL’s 2013 league year is but a handful of days in the past but the Detroit Lions already have a significantly tweaked roster. Lions' insider Mike Mady provides analysis on Detroit's upgrades -- and what it all means.
BEST OF MAXIM
Free agency for the Lions this season started with a bang.
Day two saw Detroit re-sign corner back Chris Houston to a 5-year deal and bring in free agents Glover Quin at safety, Jason Jones at defensive lineman and the big one Reggie Bush at running back.
In addition the Lions also brought back safety Louis Delmas on a 2-year contract worth $9 million plus.
The big question though...
The NFL confirmed that the Detroit Lions will receive two of the 32 compensatory draft picks awarded to teams who lost free agents last year.
The Lions receive a pick at the end of the fourth round for losing cornerback Eric Wright to Tampa Bay and another pick at the end of the seventh round for losing quarterback Drew Stanton to the New York Jets (later traded to Indianapolis...

FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Joique Bell came out of nowhere to become a PPR machine in 2012. He finished the season with 52 receptions for 485 yards and was largely owned in most leagues by the end of the year. Not only was he productive in the passing game, he also...
Though the Detroit Lions have made some major moves in the past few weeks, general manager Martin Mayhew claims his team is done making waves on the roster front.
Interestingly enough, though, at the same exact time, the Lions have been linked with free agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora, formally of the New York Giants. The 31 year old had hoped to cash in on the open market, but...

The main reason for this is the Lions defense giving up the sixth most points per game in the NFL last year. With the signing of running...
If not for a big mistake by the Denver Broncos and a fax machine, there wouldn’t even be a conversation about Elvis Dumervil being on the open market.
But, late Friday afternoon, a mistake happened and Dumervil went from being extended to becoming the best free agent pass rusher available. The dominating defensive end was scheduled to make $8 million dollars.
The Lions, after...
Sometimes it is hard to be a Detroit Lions fan. Strike that, pretty much all the time it is tough to be a fan of this team that cannot ever seem to make the right decision on the day when good teams have to make quality decision to make their roster better. Two headlines from [...]
The two surprise teams that made the NFC playoffs last season did so largely because of sharp decisions in the draft a year ago.
Seattle went from 7-9 to 11-5 after taking quarterback Russell Wilson in the third round, 75th overall. Wilson gave the Seahawks a surprising dual threat and was arguably just as productive as higher-profile picks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.
