Lions waive CB Quinton Dunbar one day before preseason opener

The Detroit Lions announced Thursday they released embattled cornerback Quinton Dunbar just one day before the team kicks off the NFL preseason against the Buffalo Bills.

Dunbar's tenure with the team was short, to say the least. Detroit signed him as a free agent just this past April.

The 29-year-old hadn't practiced with the team for the past 10 days and was reportedly tending to a personal matter. On Monday, coach Dan Campbell told reporters the Lions "know where he's at. We know what's going on, and we're thinking about him."

It isn't clear what those personal matters entail or whether they are connected to armed robbery charges he faced while playing for the Washington Football Team.

Dunbar followed up his tenure in Washington with an injury-riddled campaign with the Seattle Seahawks. He was expected to compete for a starting CB job in Detroit prior to taking a leave of absence from the team.

In a corresponding move, the Lions added free-agent running back Craig Reynolds to their roster.
