Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson re-opened the incision on his surgically repaired elbow and will sit out Thursday's preseason finale.
Burleson re-opened the stitching in Saturday's exhibition game and needed stitches to re-close it. Lions coach Jim Schwartz told reporters Burleson will be held out as a precaution.
"It's just a superficial wound, but you also have infection and things like that, so we'll just cool our jets a little bit with him," he said.
Burleson had six catches for 97 yards and a score in the preseason after collecting 55 catches for 625 yards and six TDs in 2010, his first season with the Lions and eighth in the NFL.
Detroit visits Buffalo on Thursday and opens the regular season Sept. 11 at Tampa Bay.
