Los Angeles Chargers Primed for Playoffs? Oddsmakers Give Bolts 58% Chance to Make the Cut in Harbaugh’s 1st Year
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It isn’t often that a team that replaces their general manager and head coach makes the playoffs the next year. However, according to Austin Mock of the New York Times, the Los Angeles Chargers are poised to do exactly that.

Mock used his NFL Projection Model to see how the NFL season will play out. The model forecasts the quality of each team and then simulates each game of the regular season and playoffs until a Super Bowl champion emerges.

That process is repeated 100,000 times to provide a realistic measure of how likely a team is to make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. Mock notes, “We are still months away from the start of the NFL season and things are likely to change.”

The projection model also gives the Chargers a 3.1 percent chance of winning the Super Bowl. While that doesn’t seem high, it is the seventh-highest chance in the AFC.

Los Angeles Chargers Given 6th Highest Odds To Make the 2024 Playoffs

The Chargers are the sixth most likely team to make the playoffs per Mr. Mock’s simulations. The usual suspects fall ahead of them; Kansas City, Baltimore, etc.. But they are ahead of three teams that made the playoffs last season; Houston, Miami, and Cleveland.

This could be attributed to the Chargers having one of the easiest schedules this season. According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Chargers have the second-easiest schedule in 2024. The Texans are ranked as the 7th hardest schedule and the Browns the 3rd hardest.
