Dobbins is the second ex-Baltimore Ravens running back to sign with the Chargers this offseason, as he'll join his former teammate Gus Edwards in Los Angeles' backfield. The 25-year-old Dobbins was a second-round pick for Baltimore in 2020, which was his best season as a pro.
Dobbins has played well when on the field but has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. He has missed 43 games during his four seasons in the NFL, with injuries such as a torn ACL and torn Achillies. Dobbins appeared in just one game last season.
Dobbins has amassed 1,347 yards on 234 career carries with an impressive 5.8 yards per carry average. Given his injury history, his workload will certainly need to be closely monitored. He will once again play second fiddle to Edwards, but Dobbins should see plenty of meaningful snaps.
His familiarity with offensive coordinator Greg Roman's system will be a plus. Roman coached Dobbins in Baltimore for three seasons and knows how to utilize him effectively. It's unclear if Dobbins will be ready to go for the start of the season, but expect him to be eased in slowly regardless.
