SAN DIEGO -- The body-length parka and shaded helmet visor made it impossible to read LaDainian Tomlinson's body language or facial expressions as he watched the AFC Championship Game from the Chargers' sideline. That didn't stop many from trying. Fans and analysts alike tried to draw conclusions about why someone removed from the Chargers' injury report was unable to play after just two series. Word from the press box and on the CBS telecast was that Tomlinson's knee was healthy enough to return. If quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates were able to play through pain, the rationale went, then why wasn't Tomlinson toughing it out? While it was under the false pretense that he could've returned, Tomlinson's heart was called into question. That's something that bothered the Chargers' leader to no end.
