Andrew Luck might not be impressing his teammates with his vocal chords off the field, but the Colts can't help but take notice of his preparation and ability to pick up a new offense so quickly.

"The quarterbacks have been (playing) well," said rookie tight end Dwayne Allen. "All three of the guys get out there and they compete, they throw it around. We're all learning and that definitely helps us all.

"Of course, Andrew seems like he's ahead of everyone. That's just him. The other two guys aren't too far behind."

And it's not just the rookies that Luck has impressed out of the gate.

"He's not the normal rookie quarterback. The kid is sharp," said offensive lineman Mike McGlynn. "Normally with a rookie there are growing pains, but this guy is sharp and he is on his game. I think it's a little different."

Allen was the second tight end the Colts drafted in April, behind Luck's college teammate Coby Fleener. But he's not concerned about his role in the offense. Allen sees them as two different types of tight ends that offensive coordinator Bruce Arians can utilize.

Naturally, he's still not looking to get on his quarterback's bad side. When the rookies were made to sing in front of the rest of the team during the opening week of training camp, Allen made sure not to let Luck see him razzing the quarterback.

"Of course I got booed off also, not as bad as Luck though," Allen joked. "Luck was terrible. I definitely was a part of the booing. I had to, quarterback or not. Whenever he looked my way I stopped booing but whenever he was standing off the other way, I was definitely booing."
