Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

With Alex Smith in Washington, Patrick Mahomes is the new starter in Kansas City, and he’s not wasting anytime when it comes to talking himself up. In fact, if you must know who throws the hardest pass in the NFL, he’ll tell you.

“I’ve seen these things with Josh [Allen] but I’m going to have to say I believe I have the stronger arm. I’ve never seen anyone throw harder than me with the football, so until I see it in person, I believe I have the stronger arm.”

Mahomes would go on to say that he threw a ball 85 yards once (with some help from the wind). But he also said that he throws the ball 80 yards without any help from the weather. All that said, let’s just keep one thing in mind: he has just one NFL start under his belt. It’s good to have confidence, of course, but it’s nearly impossible to just waltz right into the NFL (at the QB position, no less) and dominate.

In his only NFL start, Mahomes would complete 62.9 percent of his passes for 284 yards and an interception. In three seasons at Texas Tech, the 10th overall pick would complete 63.5 percent of his passes while racking up 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.

We obviously don’t know if Mahomes is the answer in Kansas City yet. But he believes he is, and heck, in the offseason, that’s as good as anything.
